Default Motorcycle leathers

Visited a couple of HD dealers this week and found that they only sell HD branded leather jackets. I remember when the shops sold many brands. I suspect the MOCO dropped the hammer and said, "If you want to sell HD, you better get rid of all those other lines you sell."

Yeah they don't want anyone to know they can buy a leather of the same or better quality for a couple hundred bucks less than an HD leather.

I own all kinds of gear... I do own harley branded stuff... like most things harley it isn't worth the cost but a lot of it is nice stuff... My current perferated leather jacket is Harley but has Dianese pads, my main gear is Dianese. My Chaps are FOX Creek... They all are superior to harley in quality, comfort, style, but price is actually much higher. Harley helmets are ok... but are mid level in my opinion. My Aria is much safer.

If harley were to mandate dealers only sell harley branded products... Then they will just keep circling the drain. There should be options and competition... Harley should focus on creating the best product then price it correctly... there is always room for the best and there are people who will pay for that!

In all likelihood it's part of the franchise agreement. However, given the MSRP of HD merch, I suspect there's enough margin in there to keep the dealers from complaining.

I think I heard they can only sell a small percentage of non HD branded items, like hair ties, boot clips, gremlin bells, those are usually the things they wouldn't want to bother making I guess.

My second Milwaukee Leather jacket arrives tomorrow (if FedEx tracking is correct.) $250 for what costs (IMO) $450 at the Harley dealer for even quality (And I don't need to advertise for HD either if I choose to ride the Z900RS instead of the Road King sometimes.)

They are not allowed to sell certain brands, of after market accessories. My dealer sold me Kuryakyn passenger pegs. They only were useful for one other position, and the added weight, caused vibration and shearing of the grade 8 bolt, after 1 month. I replaced it with Rivco passenger posts, which rotate 360 degrees, are made in USA, and are still on my bike after 9 years. I asked several dealers to start selling them and they all gave me a deer in the headlights look. I think they have a point system where they get dinged by the MOCO, for selling non approved merchandise.

I dunno guys. I’ve seen a LOT of other brands in H-D dealerships. Custom Dynamics, Khrome Werks, V&H, Kuryakyn, Factory 47, and more. Motor clothes are different, but I know of a couple dealers with dedicated displays of Dixxon (shirts/tops) and a few other brands. I suspect the profit on motor clothes including leathers is pretty good. More than once I’ve been offered a 30% discount on H-D jackets and rain gear.

One of the dealers here has a little area in the store with non Harley stuff.
Only been there once, If I recall, there's a sign on the that little area says it's not Harley affiliated .
Any of the guys here in the Cleveland market that frequents South East Harley confirm that?

Harley branded stuff...the handful of things I've bought range from hi-quality, to average good to cheap crap.
The heavy gloves I paid $90(?) for are tremendous.
The helmets are "OK"
The tee-shirts....I refuse to pay $20+ for the logo on the equivalent of a $3 sidewalk stand Tee .
(Unless on they're on the clearance rack @50-70% off, I just don't have money to burn like that)

Most of the stuff I've looked at gear wise though appears in the upper tier quality range.
all of it comes with the additional cost for the logo though imHo
