I usually wear Lucchese elephant hide with rubber soles and heels.
I have a pair of Chippewa, also elephant hide and rubber soles.
They are dress boots but the elephant hide is the toughest there is, comfortable too.
Neither pair are black so there's that too.

I used these Harley boots Till the sole fell off in a middle of a road trip last Summer, Thank goodness we found some Epoxy, Now I just use my Work boots.
I also wondered what would be a GOOD Riding Boot, I'm just going to Stay with my Wolverine Work boots.

If you are worried about the heat, there are excellent bike boots that flow a lot of air, offer great protection and are even waterproof!

For example:

TCX AirTech

Highway 21 axle shoes

The best riding boots are the ones you will actually wear. Why I recommend you take a look at these. They do you no good if they're just going to sit in the closet when it's hot. Summer is coming up. Do you want heavy boots?

I found a mesh jacket at Harley, with armor in elbows and shoulders for 74 dollars yesterday on the clearance rack at the dealer, in 3XX. Not Harley branded, but I don't care about branding. I went down recently wearing a Harley mesh. Did it's job admirably. The reason I am pointing this out is that it was close to 80 degrees out. I am glad I was wearing gear. I was also wearing Cortech riding sneaks. No damage to my feet.

I’ve been wearing Thorogoods for years, both 8” and 6”, I just ordered a pair of Nicks Boots, custom handmade boots.

The boots in post 6 looks well made and adequate with thick leather for low speed motorcycle crashes.
Not so sure about ankle or femur protection.
Their $300 cost does not surprise me.

Maybe most important for this forum is Danner boots "fit" the Harley "uniform".

Here's the competition:
Supertech R Vented Boots | Alpinestars
May not be the best boot for walking/ hiking around or for USA size 14 EEE
$500 price for vented version and tested for motorcycle crashes.

Maybe most important for this forum is Alpinestar "does not fit" the Harley "uniform".

My vote:
If Sunday morning riding the Alpinestars.
If touring and site seeing, with hiking (or posing), the Danners.

All FWIW, have fun at the shoe store

I've been wearing these TCX fuel boots for a couple of seasons and they are great. Lighter than some of the other harness boots I've owned, and they offer good protection in case of an accident.

I think my next boot will be these, if I can find a brick and mortar store where I can try them on.

I'm with you. I don't do the "Harley Uniform" and prefer proper technical motorcycle gear designed specifically to save my hide when I come off.

Rukka/Rokker/TCX for most riding.

When I do want to do the uniform, I have a Langlitz jacket for that.
