Older tires
I would rather put new tires, bands, and tubes on the bike than trust old ones to my life. Your choice of course, just not one I would make.
you should, though
I got a quote from my dealership for a new front tire, OEM Dunlop....325 + tax
I went accross the street to the Indian Dealership and they did it for $275 out the door
while you are at the Indian Dealership, ask them if you can test ride the Challenger....baller bike!!!!

I've begun to value the difference a new tire can make on ANYTHING (bike, car, wheelbarrow) and if it's at all possible, I opt for the fresher tread. Just put a new Amer. Elite Dunlop on the back of my Road King and was amazed at the difference it made in the way the bike handled and rode. I was actually considering a swingarm brace as the bike would get quite dodgy when changing lanes. With the new tire on the rear, it's smooth as butter!
Everyone focuses on the blowout, which should be a concern. But, there are many other benefits a new tire brings to the deal. It'll likely be quieter, smoother, better handling, and, whoever has to change that old, hardened carcass with thank you for it! My .000002, and it's likely worth exactly what you paid for it.
Good luck with whatever decision you pursue.
