I am interested in becoming an instructor for Harleys. I understand a certification proceedure is required but don't know where to go to get info. Is there a web site someone can steer me towards?
Thanks,
Marsh
I don't know about a web site but here's what I know about North Carolina. The dealer where I took the Rider's Edge course two years ago approached me about taking the training to become an instructor. What he told me was, I go to class to become a MSF instructor and then once a year the people from Riders Edge come by to teach you what they want you to know. I'm pretty sure thae standard MSF instruction was 4 full days and the Rider's Edge part was 5 days.
I'd like to do it but I'm afraid of what will happen. I don't seem to be able to do anything half way and I'm afraid I'll enjoy it too much and start teaching so much it will cut into my ride time. I was told you only have to teach 2 classes a year to stay certified. The pay is pretty good for working along weekend. I may still do it, maybe next year.
There is a link on the Riders Edge portion of Harleys website that outlines the process of becoming an instructor. You would need to getcertified to teach the MSF course in your state and then find a dealership to sponsor you for the additional Rider's Edge training.
Marsh, I cut and pasted this from the HD Riders Edge website:
First, you'll need to find a participating dealer with instructor positions available and submit an application. Then if you're selected as a candidate, you'll need to complete:
1) The MSF Instructor Preparation Workshop (I.P.)/RiderCoach Preparatory Workshop (R.P.W.), a minimum seven-day course that certifies you as an MSF Instructor*.
2) The Rider's Edge New Rider Course Instructor Training Program (I.T.), a five-and-a-half-day class in which you'll learn how to teach the New Rider Course and get an overview of what the Rider's EdgeÂŽ New Rider Course and Harley-Davidson are all about.
Once you're done, you're ready to roll. And that's all there is to it. For more information, use our dealer locator to find the participating dealer nearest you. And then give them a call.
