I installed one on my RGU, it does make a difference in the heat felt by the rider. It pulls heat from the jugs down to the ground, keeps the heat from rising up around you. I leave mine on auto, it comes on if outside temps are above 80F and below I think its 30mph.
Yes - very pleased with this install (2-years ago). Mine runs in automate - I never have to think about it.
Just keep in mind, this is all about rider comfort; nothing to do with engine heat management. Wife and I are a lot more comfortable riding in high-heat environments, stop & go, etc..
I got my M8 this spring, so I'm waiting for a warm humid summer day to see how bad it is. I don't have a warranty so if it's that bad, I'll probably first ditch the head pipe. The CAT in the head pipe from my understanding seems to be what causes all the heat. The passengers foot is right above that CAT, so I can't see how it isn't going to be bad.
Installed over the winter and must say…not impressed so far but maybe I was expecting too much. AUTO mode for me too.
A day spent in Miami stop & go traffic was what did it for me. I put mine in right after that experience. Bike was stock at the time and running exceptionally hot in most circumstances.
It really shines in the right environment. I've been impressed when stuck in traffic or pulling parade duty. Cam and pipes have cooled down my ride a bit. Outside of the extreme situations I forget it's even there. I do check that its running from time to time so I know it's helping to keep me comfortable.
My '13 EGlide needed something like this so I installed one on the '19 Ultra when it was new. I think it was worth it however since it was installed when the bike was new I have nothing to compare it to. However it limits access to the transmission oil dipstick and I had to cut down an allen wrench to prevent damage to the dipstick. I tried to find a dipstick that dosen't require a wrench however Harley claims their's is not compatible with the M8. I didn't see any difference, but I haven't had a chance to research it.
I bought the CoolFlow fan over a year ago to be installed on my 2006 Ultra. I understand that it was meant for the newer bikes but I thought there was a way to control it manually just like the Wards fans that I already have on it. The dealer says it can't be done and I'm only capable to check the tire pressure! Any idea? Thanks!
