There's a metric ton of logistics you need to think about and prepare for the least of which is how fat the bank account is for this as it won't be as cheap you may believe and the next is the bike itself. You will be dealing with breakdowns and odd mechanical issues at the least convenient times or place on one that old, nature of the beast.

I've done a few 4 to 6 week long road trips on 2 wheels, they wear you down even as a young buck in my 30's

If you're gonna be tent camping, I'd suggest getting a taller tent like a Lonerider. The Garage area is a great place to hang out (cook in) if you're stuck at camp due to rain. Oh Yea, and slow down and smell the roses. You're retired now. Have Fun!

I'd also recommend some personal security equipment (whatever you can possess legally) and the means to secure your valuables (wallet, etc) when you shower, etc.
Some campgrounds are set up with security in mind while the rustic ones can be a bit "iffy".

Personally I don't mind camping but when I do I like to do two nights (if possible) before breaking camp and the setting it back up the same evening.

Also important to have access to a good weather channel so you can plan ahead.

A few years ago I was on a trip and got caught in a weather system and was basically confined to a motel room for three days (4 nights) with horrible rain storms!
Luckily, that motel was located close enough to restaurants and gas station to where I could grab food and beer without getting too wet!

Sounds like you're gonna have a memory making adventure!
Same Stuff I was Thinking of. When I'm within a few hundred miles from home, my Concealed Carry Permit works for me, Probably Not So Much in some of the States NASCAR Travels To😬😰 Haven't Decided on "Security" for this particular "Trip" Yet. Do have some good Rain Gear and Wet Weather Gear but will need a Little More. MOST of the time of the year the Cold Shouldn't be Too Much of a Problem following the NASCAR Circuit, I Ride in Wyoming when it's in the 40's, Just Layer Up under the Leathers!! Thanks for the Reminders tho, if you think of any others I'm Open to Ideas!!

Hope you have a great retirement,I'll be 65 in a couple months but will have to go 'till 70 I think short of a winning lottery ticket.
I Understand the "Waiting" thing. That's why I had to wait until now, I turn 70 in February. Hang in there, it'll Happen!👍😎🇺🇸

I don't go anywhere out of state if I'm traveling somewhere that I haven't been to recently without checking the latest rules and regs on concealed carry for that area.

"Wyoming has reciprocity with the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, ..."

You still need to know their rules though. Some may choose not to carry given the hassle.

Having Trucked all these Years I had planned on the North South Thing!! 😉😉 Good Advice!

I kinda figured one motel night mid week to, catch up on a Shower and Laundry. I'm still "Investigating," but so far, it sounds like Most of the Campgrounds at the NASCAR Tracks have Restrooms and Showers and Many are Free. Not Great at the Journaling thing but the Picture Taking, I may have to have 2 or 3 extra Memory Cards!!

Thanks for the Advice

Living the dream! Is February the best time to start a ride in Wyoming? I remember gates being closed on the interstate there. Devil's tower was always on my list but maybe you have already seen it?

I lived in Casper Wyoming for a little over 10 years. The plan you have to tour everywhere is totally awesome even given the challenges you may face. Getting out of the 800 mph wind tunnel n Wyoming would be a relief for sure. Lol!
