I have a 99 elecra glide. I've completely built the engine. Man of War crank 110 big bore kit, new mikuni carb and intake, exhaust 630 cams, new clutch, baker 6 upgraded cam plate, twintec ignition screaming eagle mva 110 heads adjustable rods. Will a good dyno tuning improve the performance? It runs great but never been truly tuned. Just looking for some advice.
Well with the money tied up I would like to get some longevity out of it. I'll probably be disappointed with the true numbers I just wonder if it will improve performance. And maybe stop spitting gas when I ride with a grup of people. It does not do well putting around.
Ya just can't leave it alone . . . same problem I have, just hunting for a little more power. With my 07 96" I wasn't building a race bike, just wanted it to run right. The Wife on her 04 Sportster would walk away from me on our favorite uphill twisty, while I'm dropping gears with full throttle trying to catch up. Major embarrassment for the "Big 96" Dyna. Now it's a 105" EFI to Mikuni swapped powerhouse. I dialed in the needles & jets, nice coloration on the plugs and very happy with it. My vote is - if yer happy with your Seat of the Pants Dyno Run . . . spend the Dyno Tune money on beer and celebrate it!
If you're after getting a tune that runs right and trying to get your carb dialed in to make it run crisp and clean (which it sounds like), absolutely. You could do it yourself with solid info on here, but if you want to skip the process and don't mind spending the cash, go for it. If you want to save some coin ask about jets for your set up. I have no doubt people on here can get you pretty close.

Yea I can't seem to leave it alone. It runs great. I have one small hesitation around 4k rpm then it clears out.. I just don't want any.. I'm hoping a good dyno tune will help
Get it done. Then even if you don't make any more power (which is unlikely), you will at least have the satisfaction of knowing that it has the correct fueling all the way through the rev range and is properly dialled in.
Over the years I've had 4 carbed bikes and two EFI bikes dyno'd by very competent people and always came out ahead. Plus there's satisfaction, for me, in documented results instead of "butt dyno" feelings...
If you want to make sure you are getting every last bit out of it, a competent tuner that understands carb's can verify your current setup is good, or he can make some tweaks
Everyone is an expert at EFI, it is easy to change things using a keyboard, carb tuning involves adding and removing timing, shimming needles and swapping out jets based on the charts
