I have a 2008 FLTR and my ignition module began to give out as I was prepping the bike for Biketoberfest. First, it was the rear right running light not coming on (turn signal worked) then it wouldn't power up to start. I ordered a new ignition module #71572-06 and installed it last night but found this. Apparently someone "modified" the module and the electric connection to the rear of the module by screwing a piece of plumbing strap to hold the module in place.
I bought the bike NEW in 2008 and other than a starter drive installed in Vancouver while touring, I have always wrenched on my own bike. I can only assume this came modified
from the factory, or when the dealer received the bike, it wouldn't start because the wiring harness was loose perhaps because the release tab was broken on the module, and instead of replacing the module, they screwed the metal band to hold the harness in place.
I am clueless.
