Default Local HOG Chapter Renewal

Why can't we renew our local HOG chapter membership prior to Jan 1st ? Our local chapter has over 500 members and I have been told to not submit my renewal application until after the first of January. This causes a workload issue with the membership officer. She/he must take the application, check the national HOG status, update any email/phone number changes, and send out some kind of correspondence to the renewal applicant. Where is it written that we must wait? We are encouraged to renew our national HOG membership early, but not our local membership. With over a million members, we need to express our displeasure.

Our chapter is taking renewals now. We have to post date it for January 1st. They said it has something to do with the waiver filing process.

Probably has to do with owner, they control the chapter. Have the director check the charter it spells out most of the details.

Our chapter offers half price member dues if paid at the December open house at the dealership. Of course, last year it didn't take place.

Its National HOG policy that the membership has to be dated 1 January or later of the year the membership is for.

And for the win! This information is 100% accurate. It has to do with dealer/chapter insurance.

No, we are being told it is from the Harley legal team. The local owner has been silent and maybe that's what needs to happen, the owners need to support early renewals.

I am glad to hear that. So some chapters do and some don't, and yet we are being told it is corporate policy. How interesting.

I hear you, but where is it written that it cannot be submitted to the membership officer prior to Jan 1st? When I read the HOG chapter handbook, it reads that we must renew our local membership yearly, but nowhere have I found that it has to be done on 1 January.

I contend that we should be able to make out a new membership application, date it January 1st, 2022, put a $20 bill with it, pass it to our membership officer and let it roll.

We are being told that if an application is received prior to Jan 1st, it will be returned.

With over 500 members, checking the status of their HOG membership, updating any email, address or phone number changes, takes a little time.
