Meh...you seem to be one of those who can't stand opinions that don't cater to making you and yours feel better. You must be one of those air-wasting fact-checkers for farcebook who censors anything that their thin skin doesn't like.
Ouch, struck a nerve did he? I love winter threads, lol
The new M8 114 and the improvements to the chassis are a game changer for guys like me who would have never bought a Harley had they not made the improvements.
Same.
Coming off Adventure bikes primarily, and my 2020 Fat Bob being my first Harley, I can say from this customer's standpoint, Harley hit a home run!
I'd say it as "Coming off Japanese bikes primarily, with a couple of Italians thrown in, I can say from this customer's standpoint Harley hit a home run with the 2018 Fat Bob!
If I wanted a bike that looks like the old ones, I'd buy an old one. If I wanted a bike that's mechanically excellent, completely badass, and brings me joy every time I look at it, I'd buy a 2018+ Fat Bob. Which is what I did. And apparently, while I acknowledge that many hate its deviation from traditional Harleyness, apparently many like it too, as its fundamental design is clearly echoed in the Pan America and Sportster S. (both of which look awesome and have received rave reviews).
Simply put: these are bikes for people who don't want the old bikes. These are bikes which bring new customers to the fold. Which is exactly what Harley needs to do if it's going to start growing its customer base and its profits.
The new generation are faster and ride better, but they look jappy crappy with the side cover where the oil tank was. Just my opinion comparing a 2017 Heritage to a 2020.

Faster - ride better versus the looks of the oil tank lol.
Sorry we got off topic there. When I see those two bikes I dont see that big of a difference to be honest. What makes the EVO powered bike a real Harley vs the M8? Serious question. When did a Harley stop being a real Harley? 1936 when they created an OHV engine or 1958 when they went to a swing arm? Some would say in 84 when the EVO replaced the Shovel but now the EVO is considered cool.
I bought my 2018 Heritage Classic from a Harley dealer. My bike has Either Harley Davidson or the bar and shield all over it.
Did I get duped and get a knock off?
My friend and neighbor that I ride with fairly often had 2013 Heritage Classic that was a very nice bike. Lots of chrome and it screamed nostalgia.
He May still have it if it didnt get totaled.
I bought my Heritage as much for what it is (lighter, more powerful motor, better suspension and handling) and what its not ( less lean angle, less powerful motor, suspension not as good and no lockable bags).
With that being said the pre 18 Heritages are very nice, traditional looking bikes, I just felt it was time for makeover for the Heritage.
It’s funny, as a member of a 4runner, Grand Cherokee SRT, and GT500 forums this same thread always comes up “current generation vs previous generation, with about a 70% favoring the previous generation and about 30% favoring the current generation in all those forums.
The 4Runner crowd thinks the 2002 was the last real runner.
The SRT crowd thinks the WK1 was the true SRT
The GT500 crowd thinks any thing with independent rear suspension is not a real Mustang.
In my humble opinion they are all correct from their personal vantage point. When it comes to “which is best” or “which looks best”, it’s all what’s rocks your boat.
Beside if your not riding this, than you are not riding a real Harley! Lol

I'd take that old original Harley in a heart beat! Anyone questioning the craving people have for old school styling can just look at how fast the Icon series if bike sell out. They make 1,500 and they sell out instantly. Imagine if they would just mass produce them. Can't wait to see the next one. Heard it may be one of Elvis bikes. Either I'd FL or Sporty. Watch how fast those sell out. 90% of Harley enthusiasts like old school styling. Just they way it is.
I don't care if Harley makes modern style bikes. But Harley has to stay true to its core and make old school as well.. God I wish they would bring Springers back.
Also a lot of guys bring up the oil tank area because it looks good. Looks like art. Plus it was also fun to customize the dip stick.
I should add I'm 41 years old. It's not like I'm that old. There's a lot of people my age that like the old school styling better..
