Been looking to purchase a new (2021) Fat Boy and ran across this list of options on the H-D main web site.
I understand most of the options but am confused about what the last two are. Most of them involve mechanical additions but those two are puzzling.
The two in question are
1. Freight. $390 (I thought this was part of MSRP)
2. Surcharge $800 This one really puzzles me.
06 Prices listed are the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Prices for base models. Options such as color are available at additional cost. Prices exclude tax, title, licensing, registration fees, destination charges, surcharges (attributable to raw materials costs in the product supply chain), added accessories, and additional dealer charges, if any, and are subject to change. Harley-Davidson reimburses dealers for performing manufacturer-specified pre-delivery inspection and setup tasks. Dealer prices may vary.
If I were buying new, I would tell them to knock off the assembly and the surcharge. Other0wise I would walk.
That covid supply chain bulshit only goes so far and I'm pretty much over it now.
M.S.R.P...the second letter stands for "suggested " not written on a stone tablet. Go negotiate the out the door price and don't let fees or surcharges derail you. A good deal is where the dealer makes some money and you feel like you got a good deal. Remember there will always be that guy on some forum somewhere that got his for xx,xxx and you got screwed lol...life's too short to not get what you want over a couple hundred bucks. Believe it or not my wife said that to me when I was negotiating a used bike with a private seller. We were deadlocked at 500 bucks apart. I never missed that 500 but I loved that bike...the wife is ok too.
I just met a guy at Cabelas who said he rode a 2021 Ultra Limited and he paid 39k with 10% interest (mrsp 29K) last year with added RSA and warranties. Non CVO. You will pay whatever you're willing to pay. He loved it. These are the kind of customers Harley wants right now and is getting. The rest of us have craigslist.
