Hi, newbie here be gentle. I have small leak seapage whatever it’s called, I have fair share of hands on with muscle cars and automotive mechanical work. My question is, is it just remove old gasket and replace? Or should I try to tighten up first? Ty
Tip: always list year and model of bike.
Why not try tightening first and see if that works? There is a pattern to be followed so be sure to consult your service manual for that and the torque spec.
Good luck!
Model/year would help. Primary cover gaskets on older sportsters are a pain in the butt. Bad design, but the new rectangular gaskets are easier to install than the triangular profile of old.
Do you know exactly where the leak is coming from? myself I would degrease the area take it for a rip and check were you think its leaking from to make sure.
It could also be leaking from the shifter shaft seal. It can drip down and look like it's the gasket leaking. Clean off the area well, and ride to operating temp, then check it.
it could be dripping from a poorly done oil change....MOCO put the filter in a stupid spot....****ing idiots....no easy way to change the oil easily without getting it all over the place
I just bought an Ultra 2001 w 26k on it. Had it checked out, I was in Caribbean my brother looked and rode it, seemed fine. Before shipping here had it serviced, I c add lled the tech and he stated that I had a sound bike. I'm loving it ❤
