Hi, newbie here be gentle. I have small leak seapage whatever it’s called, I have fair share of hands on with muscle cars and automotive mechanical work. My question is, is it just remove old gasket and replace? Or should I try to tighten up first? Ty

Tip: always list year and model of bike.
Why not try tightening first and see if that works? There is a pattern to be followed so be sure to consult your service manual for that and the torque spec.
Good luck!

Try snugging is a no brainer. Now if you break bolts off, that's another matter.

Be sure to work top to bottom starting at center out.

Model/year would help. Primary cover gaskets on older sportsters are a pain in the butt. Bad design, but the new rectangular gaskets are easier to install than the triangular profile of old.

It could also be leaking from the shifter shaft seal. It can drip down and look like it's the gasket leaking. Clean off the area well, and ride to operating temp, then check it.

Tell everyone it's a Triumph.....

Oh crap, did I just say that.....
For the record, I have a Triumph, it was just a joke.

I would do what many suggested. Clean, verify, fix.

no one can tell you that until you determine where the drip is originating from.
could be gasket, one of the seals or strip'd drain plug

clean it (as mentioned) go for ride, park it, get your flashlight 'n mirror and find out where it's originating from.
