A Shriner is a 32nd degree Mason that walked a little further East.

I'm also looking into purchasing a 1998 'Shriner' Ultra Classic edition, although I am not a Shriner (Sorry about that, but it looks like a really nice bike) ... Besides the special VIN and paint colors, is there any other special or unique equipment that comes with one of these Shriner bikes? ... Is this basically a regular Ultra with different paint, or is there more to it than this?

Thanks for any advice I can get, it's always appreciated

Actually, the Shrine bikes are considered fleet sales. Some dealers do not participate in passing on the savings to the customer. The ones that do are known as "Fair Price Dealers".

I walked the Hot Sands in 1973.

Thanks for your explanation of the discount and vin nimbers, is there an on line list of the vin#s? then the last question remains as to what a shriner is.....?
The VIN numbers have a different sequence where it shows the model number - there's two letters that show the model IIRC and one special one is for Shrine, one for Police, etc. If you have a factory Service Manual it shows that in the beginning. Mine is not handy but there are lots of online references.

Police Office Special Edition, Firefighter Special Edition, Shrine and Jester bikes are all a voice of support from the Motor Company to these groups of people. Discounts are awarded to the dealer however the final price must be negotiated with the dealer. You must provide proof of membership and sign an agreement stating you will keep the bike for a year. My group purchases new bikes every 2-3 years and they seem quite popular in the used marked - likely because of the low miles, excellent care, and accessories that stay on the bike when they are sold.

Members of the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine for North America (AAONMS, AKA Shriner's) are members of the Masonic Order and adhere to the principles of Freemasonry - Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. Shriner's are distinguished by an enjoyment of life in the interest of philanthropy. The member organization has a buoyant philosophy, which has been expressed as "Pleasure without intemperance, hospitality without rudeness, and jollity without coarseness".

What this boils down to is the Shrine is the playground of Masonry - however early on Shriner's realized that you can't just have a club without a purpose. from that came our founding and continued support for the Shrine Hospitals of North America which provide free orthopedic and burn care to children under 18. We have fun while raising money for and increasing awareness of the Hospitals.

You see us putting on parades, circuses, rodeos. You see us with our funny hats, some dressed as clowns, some in fancy cars and some in funny cars. We're all about the children however. There's not a Shriner that I have met yet that doesn't have a recollection about someone coming up to them with a personal story of how the Shrine Hospital has changed their life. All I can say is when that happens, and it happens fairly often, I share a happy tear with the person and go on with a renewed sense of purpose. They tell me how much they were helped, how much my work helped - I wish I could express how much they help me, to convince me that I'm doing the right thing.

Anyway, we're getting WAY off topic here. It looks like there's a fair number of us represented. If any of you have any further questions about Masonry or the Shrine, I suggest you hit one of us up via PM or email. I'd be more than happy to discuss it with you further, as would I'm sure any of the fine gentlemen who indicated their membership.

It was explained earlier in the thread. They have different emblems on the tank and special pinstriping. The actual Shrine Edition Ultra is a slightly different color white than the normal one. You can see all of it on the H-D website under fleet sales.

So if it was repainted and not restored to the 'shriner' paint scheme, the only difference would be a funky VIN number? ... do the Shriner ones have the metal emblems, or decals - or is that something that was different for different years and stuff like that? ... besides the paint color, would it be harder to restore a 'Shriner' edition than a regular Ultra?

My 2007 Peace Officer S/E Road King was almost 4k less than regular MSRP.

Detwells... what dealership did you go through. I am looking to purchase an 08 ultra classic Police Edition. I have talked to more than 20 dealerships ans he best quote I've seen so far was $19,100 - only about $1500 under MSRP.

Anyone else know a good stealer willing to pass on the savings. I don't mind flying in and riding home.
