Ape Hangers

So I’m considering taking a ride from S,W Florida, up to the North end of Georgia. Not sure how I found it, but I guess Ape Hangers are illegal in Georgia (at least tall ones and mine are pretty tall). Supposedly mine are illegal in Florida as well, however I’ve never had any issues with being pulled over for them. Has anyone ever experienced problems with LEO’s giving tickets for them? I appreciate any and all information, thank you.

Possible to get a fix-it ticket. And if deemed unsafe, vehicle can be towed. I've only seen both of those applied during Daytona bike week. Mostly ignored as a primary offense to pull someone over.

That's going to vary from place to place. In New York I believe the rule is that the grips can't be higher than your shoulders. I've never seen it enforced, but I guess it is on the books.

I live in GA. I have never had an issue with any bike I have owned and all have had 16" bars on them.

Exactly. Just don't ride like a Richard and you'll be fine.

Here in NYS there are a lot of rules on the books, I know quite a few people who have ape hangers, some taller than their shoulders, some, like mine, not, no one I know has been ticketed for that. They are supposedly cracking down on anything but stock muffler systems but I'm not seeing that either. I purposely went to 2 different places for our inspections this past spring and neither place(one independent shop, and one stealership)even batted an eye/ear at our ape hangers, or modified muffler systems, I ride by police all of the time and they don't give me a second look(unless I'm >10 miles over the speed limit).
