Thumbs down jiffy stand

the bikes have had a jiffy stand for years, and years .
Why did they redesign something that works?? (03,07 ,and 15 all different)
Just finished replacing pin and bushings on a 07 heritage .
took a hour to shim the bushings so they would not cam out of the bracket.
then to get the pin in over the bushing shoulder , took two of us to rock the bike and get it lined up $&^*(*&(*.
My 03 Fatboy is two piece and just bolt it on .
my sons 15 slim is "clipped" in place .
seems like every new "engineer" has to show how smart he/she is .
OK Rant over

Have you seen the 18+ Softail stands? Worst piece of crap ever bolted to a Harley. If you like having heart attacks as your bike settles just when you start walking away, this is the stand for you! You'll never see old fat riders move so fast reaching for a 700lb bike. This and the whistling M8 is why I can't bring myself to own one.

That's usually the case. Everything looks good on paper until you try to actually make it.

The funny thing to me is that HD is the only manufacturer that I have ever known, actually has a name and is mega proud of a kickstand, and I don't feel it even works all that well...

Exactly why we engineers get a bad image, and I even ask - "How the hell did that make it on to [ insert vehicle or whatever] production?"
DOES ANYONE TRY IT OR TRY TO WORK ON it? [ again, insert whatever part or piece]. Rant over.

So yeah...I just bought a '22 HC114 a month ago which is my first HD ever and got roasted because I asked the oh so stupid question "WTH is a Jiffy Stand?" (thinking it might be a center-stand cause I've been riding for 50 years and never heard kickstand called that)and then I learned what it was and the why and what's of what it was designed for which apparently predates anything electric start and now that I understood "Why a Jiffy Stand"?...I now also understand that NO ONE WITH ELECTRIC START & NO KICK STARTER would ever, ever need one.

Mine requires that I lean the bike PAST CENTER to the right just to get that POS kickstand to swing into its (unnecessary) forward position so the tab can unnecessarily nest into the slot as I've resigned myself to staying on the bike and wrestling it around looking like a one man dorkfest until my Jiffy Stand is securely in place so that in the rare event I need to?...I can stand on the right side of my HC114 to use my full body weight to kick start my 114ci M8 engine using the kick starter it doesn't have that the Jiffy Stand was designed for use with.

There....now I feel better.

See what happened when they took the kickstarter away ? The very sturdy long abused kickstand got a new name the Jiffy Stand and a case of wimp ***

Do not like the new style stand on my Road King, it will never get the trust the one the shovel has earned.

When I was an auto mechanic, we always said the engineers should work on the cars they want to design so they wouldn't design stupid ****. I worked at an Oldsmobile dealership in Lansing, and we often had engineers come in to check "problem" areas of their designs.

Hate the jiffy stand.. Hate when I see the stand slide back and feel the bike roll forward as I get off when parked facing down on a slight incline..

Almost crapped myself when I saw the stand suddenly settle when I wasn't even near the bike. Thought it was going to fall over.. (Managed to record it with my driveway security cam).

And that's why I don't even let go of the bars (let alone get off the bike) until the bike falls into place on that pos stand...maybe if I lived in SF and always parked "downhill" I might eventually gain an appreciation for it but here in Florida?...I'd almost rather lean it against a tree than use that Jiffy stand...I'm glad my drinking days are over...bike would've probably been on the ground by now.
