I grew up in a holler in W Va. with about 300 other hillbillies. If you passed by someone you waved and they waved back. And thats if your driving or walking. It was the way things worked.
When I moved to Pa I remember thinking how rude these people were, nobody waved when driving or acknowledged each other when they passed on the sidewalk.
