Pops just bought a new Tri Glide CVO, he had them install a CB and is having issues with it.
His Bluetooth from his phone and music play as they should, The CB only works at really close range. Once he gets a couple bus lengths away I can hear him but he can't hear me.
Has anyone had this issue?
We have been all through the settings on both the headset and the bike. We switched CB antennas between his bike and mine with no change, the local dealer just swapped out the CB module last Friday too. None of the local dealers know anything about CB's or really any of the tech on these new bikes.
Having everyone he rides with switch to bluetooth isn't an option. He paid for a CB and we would just like it to work as it should.
You mentioned CVO - so, I am guessing you got the wireless Harley headset and also have the WHIM installed.
Now that the dealer has installed the CB - check his. Open the trunk and look at the antenna connection inside the trunk, under the carpet. When that is not fully tightened, it often cuts down on reception.

His bike doesn't have wired as an option. The dealer told him wired wasn't available after 2020 so he is stuck with the BT.
Somewhat true. The CVOs have bluetooth and the WHIM.
My 2021 is wired so I can connect that way. I also have a set of wireless headsets. But I chose to not install the WHIM so I would not lose the wired connection.
With such a small ground plane you won’t get very far out. Used CB on our ATV’s if we were in line of sight we could generally get each other, but we were using Fire Stick antennas.

From my 2016 to his 2015 I could get him even when i could barely see him which is what our expectation was, We aren't trying to chat out of line of sight, moreso just when we are in groups riding which is mainly the style that he rides. As it stands now he can't hear me when i can still read his license plate almost. I can hear him just fine though which is the weird part.
Certainly not expecting to chat with people across the county like a big rig or base station could.
Have you confirmed it's not a transmit problem with your bike?
Yes, everyone else in our group can hear me fine. It is limited to his bike. We even have a guy with a 2021 running BT with a CB that has no issues talking/hearing any of us.
