Man some of you guys are harsh and unkind. So say your out with some friends, have an extra beer, feel fine. You ride home, get into an accident and are found over the legal… ok, you just did something horrible. Took a life, someone’s father, husband, son or friend. You own it. Do all that is possible to make amends knowing it’s never enough. You still have a family to care for. You have one skill and that’s really all you know.
let’s say you make the mistake.. horrible as it is, what are your options to try and make it right? You can’t. So do you shoot yourself leaving wife and kids? Do you crawl into a bottle being even more of what people now think of you? What would you do after it’s happened? I’m not saying anyone needs to put him on a pedestal or anything. But just sitting around judging him like your perfect is arrogant.
The *** clown part I was referring to was for the "artificial patina" baloney. That's kind of a wannabe thing.
I know too many old iders that come by that effect honestly.

when I saw that video, I did not take it like he was saying here’s some amazing cutting edge thing I’m doing. To me it kind of sounded like, when you don’t have any money and you can’t really go for a high-end paint job there is the craze of the rat rod and the worn and the survivor. And I took it like he was saying hey if you don’t have any money, here’s the way I do it, hope it helps. He didn’t charge me.. he offered for free. I’m actually not like some huge fan, I think he’s practical and explains himself better than most. I like him better than most known bike builders.
I don’t like survivors. Unless they’re historic, from the 30s or 40s or something. But there is a huge huge movement especially in California to make everything look like it’s been around since the 70s. Kudos to him for knowing that’s a thing right now. Me personally all those bikes look like junk and like somebody needs to sand them down and do a decent paint job. But I respect everyone’s opinions and if you’re going for that, I think his methods are probably as good as anyone else’s. And again he offered for free.. also said with humility that he thinks his method is good, but there’s lots of ways to do it. Also said he learned a lot from others.

He can do whatever he wants but as far as I am concerned, I won’t watch his videos or support a public life for him. Yes, he did his time and he has a right to work. I also have a right to choose not to support him in a public life. He can go work quietly as a plumber, factory worker, mechanic or whatever. Fine…but not a celebrity or social influencer. It’s kind of like the preacher that gets caught with the hooker…don’t tell me you repented and expect me to support you. Sorry, go make tents for a living out of the spotlight. Your disqualified from teaching me on life at that point.
That could have happened to a lot of us, certainly me, back in the day. Miracle from God that it didn't, so I won't judge.

I get what you guys are saying, but as I originally said, I didnt like him much before he killed that guy.
And how many threads are there on this very forum about some cager getting drunk and killing a biker? Then everyone on the board is calling for life in prison or the death penalty.

Believe me I see both sides… no winners. Sad and tragic. When someone you depend on, love, care about is just gone that will effect you for life.. so would taking a life under any circumstances. Lotta gun bravado.. Lots of movies glorifying vengeance and responding with violence.. guns are made with a high level of craftsmanship. They can be a powerful useful tool.. They can be beautiful but taking a life isn’t like the movies. No matter how it happens that to you carry with you for life. It’s sad all around.
Nobody has to like him. He did something terrible. None of us have to like his builds or methods either. Lives were ruined, sad all around. In this instance he was the cager. I personally do like some of his content. It’s not the person or their past mistakes I’m evaluating or respecting, it’s the knowledge or talent. I don’t like how many famous musicians live, treat others but that has little to do with the music they create. I can marvel at Chuck Berries talent without having to like how he treated women. Two different things. I can enjoy what Mr Lane has shared about bikes without condoning his mistakes.
