I have two Heritage Classics (the real kind, not the new kind), and both are fine with the wind---better than my Road King. I have fangs on one but not on the other, and there's not a wind problem with either. My wind test is whether I can comfortably were my captain's hat without constantly adjusting it. I can with both.

I started with a 2010 fat boy (hence my username) and bought a windshield. Awful turbulence, buffeting. I just never rode with one. Pops gifted me his heritage which had qd windshield which I currently have. Same thing. I even tried a LRS shield or some type. I honestly don't remember what brand but has a lip at top. No change. So I pulled shield and run it naked.

I've had street glide which had KW shield, 6.5 i think, and very minor buffeting. Road glide I now have I don't have buffeting at all. But some sort of turbulence that wants to rip sunglasses off my face. But it's not a violent shaking or rattling like buffeting. More like a swirling or something.

I love a road king special. imo they're the best looking bikes. But I want a fairing, no windshield, bc of the experiences with my softails.

buffeting isn't same as wind for those who think it is. If you've never experienced it, you're lucky. I don't mind wind. I've regularly rode my softails with no shields in Texas winter down to about 45*. That's at 80 mph hwy speeds. Buffeting is a violent head shaking which also blurs vision

I cut down the windshield on my '19 to where it's about level with my nose or upper lip. I mainly did it because the stock height had the split line pretty close to my line of sight. Cutting it back improved the bit of turbulence I was getting, although there is still a bit but very manageable.
A while back somebody posted that they made and installed a couple of metal strips to push the bottom windshield mounts forward about 2". The guy reported that the slightly greater angle of the windshield made a big improvement. I haven't tried it so no idea if it would be of any value for my situation which is already pretty fair.
I thought about coming up with a chin spoiler to go under the lower triple tree, like the old semi-circle you could install on Road Kings etc. It looks like there's a lot of stuff in the way, maybe something pliable like rubber could be made to work? Just a daydream at this stage but it would be as effective as the fangs with much less impact on appearance.

You may not like the look, but they've been around a long, long time. Not quite as long as studded saddlebags.

Before the Road King, there was the Electra Glide Sport. I owned 2 of them, and have had several Road Kings. The windshield of the Sport was more upright than the Road King, and was a pleasure to ride behind. More so than the RK

Fangs work. They don't look that out of place to me.

My '93 Heritage Classic beats the hell out of me at with wind coming up from around the tank at any speed over 65 mph. I tried using the curved deflector under the triple tree but it made the problem worse. Haven't tried the fangs because I don't want to waste the money if they don't work even if I could find a set that fit my bike.

As others have stated "It's all so subjective" to the point that the OP mentions Road Glides and Ultra's but here you are looking at 2 bikes that you don't have the option of 2 minute Fairing/Windshield removal for those blistering hot days where you're just tooling around coastal bweach towns and/or backroads where speeds rarely meet or exceed 60mph or so where any rider would welcome the clean breeze of the ride that can be thoroughly enjoyed with the QD windshields found on Softail Heritages and Road Kings but then there are those other times when the Road gets Cold and protection from the wind becomes highly valued but there are bike configurations that lend themselves to adapting to seasonal changes in weather and there are bikes that don't and I find it ironic that the kings of the upper crust are also the least adaptive to seasonal conditions case in point?....the "Limited" iterations of Road Glides and Ultra's where not only are these bikes fitted with large fairings loaded with gauge and infotainment touch screen gear but they are also endowed with Non-Removable Lowers so when those blistering hot days come upon the owners of such?...they are stuck in a bubble of their own heat and can't buy a breeze where it takes me all of about 10 minutes to install or remove my Heritages Fangs and about 2 minutes to install or remove my Heritages windshield.

One of the best things that happened to my Heritage is a dump truck shot a pebble at my OEM stock windshield dinging it badly enough to the point that I made the mistake of attempting to polish it out and that when I learned you can't polish dings out of the stock windshield because it's made of flimsy 1/8th" thick polycarbonate that has a UV coating that's so thin that once its polished it's gone hence why it's one of the best things that happened because it gave me a life lesson in the difference between polycarbonate and acrylic windshields as I promptly replaced that thin, buffeting, to tall for me polycarbonate windshield with a custom height/tinted, 3/16ths" thick, recurved Freedom Shield acrylic windshield and experienced zero buffeting and a much quieter ride, How do I know it's quieter? Answer: I no longer have to turn my helmet com system up to max to clearly hear my XM tunes at full hwy speeds and I can keep the music volume **** even lower with the Fangs on but the fangs are definitely a winter months only accessory.
