Sorry about that Broken Leg Rider. My post was in reply to the original poster. I support ABATE 100%. I'm still guessing the original poster was on an MC ride...or maybe ahardcore RC.
As to the HOG comments, I'm not in HOG, but I'm gonna throw out a stereotype here: Most HOG guys are stuck-up old guys on baggers with giant windshields that keep wondering why I don't have a giant windshield. Further, they think that since I don't have a bagger, I must be some kinda loser. They liketo drive 80 miles, eat and sit aroundfor3 hours (not drink), and ride home.
My experience with a HOG is a combination of both your experiences but it's fun anyway. My wife loves it and heck we and some other outcasts have formed our own clique
In my road captain training for my HOG chapter, I was told to start off as I usually do. Well, when I ride alone I usually let it rip, but when I'm with a group following I always take off at the same speed as what the smallest bike would - say an 883. So everyone doesn't have to rip it to catch up and we don't get an accordian type effect.
The group that you were trying to ride with sound like they don't know how to run with a group of bikers that aren't familiar with their style of riding. Take it in stride. Every group doesn't always ride like that.
Bunch of rude basturds I'd say. Screw them! As suggested check out your local HOG chapter & don't allow that incident to take the pleasure out of the ride.
Yep, HOG and ABATE here. I am not that much into group riding, but for special events and charity, I participate. I am much more into riding alone. There is a skill set involved in group riding and I am sure that not everyone has it.

Could be. I didn't see any"colors," though there were a couple that hada prettyhardcore biker look to them (well-used rat bikes and all). 'Course there was also the friendly guy, who was riding a BMW... who knows. I would think if it was an MC ride they wouldn't have been handing out flyers about it, but what do I know?
My friend, who told me about the ride, is in with a bunch called the "Freebirds," (who I'm not familiar with)but I don't think this group was them.
There's a time and place for everything. Including going fast. I can't lie, I love it. However, busy city streets and red lights are no place to be going real fast on a bike that would fit in any cars blind spot. I've seen cars wait for a bike to pass before merging, only to find themselves cutting off the pack of riders behind him/her. Its a dangerous place out there. Riding safe and within your means is the best thing you can do. HOG chapters are a real good place to get familiar with the aspects of group rides. Good luck.

It is an unfortunate truth that while the individual person is smart, people are not. There is a significant mentality shift that happens when large groups of people get together. Ego seems to take over in such "packs". One blows by another, who, of course, can't be showed up and has to blow by in turn. In general, I like to ride with a large group of riders; however, I am extremely defensive because people tend to abandon ride safety for self gratification. In terms of the "clicks", they are an unavoidable fact of life; people tend to gravitate towards similarity. Outright rudeness or ostracism has no place in the ride community. The organizing committee of any ride should always take it upon themselves to make sure that EVERYONE feels welcome...
