The only group rides I do here and there are the ones with the "Florida Crew" no rules just ride...Everyone is an experienced rider and there are never any idiotic things done and I have been to a **** load of rides with them.
Riding with a responsible group can be fun... I just recently had a "not great" experience with a group here in L.A., after a little while, we left the ride and took off on our own and enjoyed the rest of the day.
Before I got my Harley, I had joined with a local Star Touring group in central California, and it was a great group, lots of fun and very responsible, and did great rides. Now I'm in Southern California, and am part of the local Star chapter here, and again, have found them to be very friendly, easy going, and well organized rides with responsible leaders and members.
Having said that, I like riding solo or 2-up the most by ourselves the most, but riding with a group can be a lot of fun... with the right group.
I will try and hook up with the local HOG chapter here for a ride to see how that goes... since it's free for the first year ;-)
Check out your local HOG chaper if you would like to join in a group ride. I am sure that there are plenty of rides that you would enjoy. We make it a point to include everyone in our rides and no one is left behind.
+1 The Chapter in Fullerton really focus's on saftey. And after riding with people I don't know I have learned to appreciate the HOG members I ride with. There is a difference between fast and stupid fast when in a group. It sounds condescending but from here forward i choose not to ride with groups I do not know.
