Ive ridden a kickstart evo with points for the last 5 or so years, I also run a CV40 carb.
If your bike is kicking back, your timing is too advanced. loosen the stand offs and move the rear plate counter clockwise a couple degrees.
An easy way to do a baseline on a points evo I find is to sit the stand offs right in the middle of the backing plate slots and make sure the points open to 0.18" on each cam lobe.
This should get your timing near where it should be to kick over easily enough and start fine tuning with a light.
Is the motor stock or a high compression build? Also how are you starting the bike? You want to give it around 3 prime kicks with the choke fully on and ignition off, turn ignition on and kick it. Once it fires, push the choke all the way in and keep the rpms up using the throttle until it settles to a nice idle.
