So if I replace my loud pipes to make the people who don't like loud noise happy, can we ban fat people from being out in public so that I can be happy?

If noise is the issue, then pass a decible level ordinance that applies to all noise. The fact is this is not about noise at all. It is about people engaging in activities that other don't approve of. Stay tuned. More local ordinances to come. Once the momentum begins we'll see things like banning motorcycles from within 50 feet of any place that serves alcohol due to the high rate of alcohol related motorcycle accidents. Motorcycle passengers must be 18. The labeling of more than 10 motorcycles in a group as gang activity.

See the loud pipes issue for what it really is. It is people who don't like motorcycles or the riders.

Sorry dirty harry. I didnt even read your thread. Kinda funny I posted the same response as you. I looked at it and thought I had logged in as someelse by mistake...
No problem here ken01976.......I'm sureol HD is very receptive to compliments about his scoot.......I sure bewould if that one was mine.........

OK hi-jacking's over now flogg away

Back to the point now about loud pipes........
The noisy exhaust thing will have..... 0....nuttin.....no impact on me...........I don't mind the stock Harley exhaust sound. I do have after market slip ons........ SE's I think (they were a gift from my son) that I put on my RC Custom. I took the normal ragging about how quiet my bike was so I caved in. It really wouldn't bother me to change back to stockers. It's still a Harley and I'm still in the wind. I don't let that kind of stuff bother me. Usually..... when a city counsel or other Gov agencyadopts an ordinance it's a reaction from negative input. Rarely do I hear a stock sounding Harley herewhere I live ripping through the gears. People seem to have had enoughnoise terrorism from motorcycles. Our state passed the "shall carry" law and I am prevelidged to be able to carry a concealed pistol legally. I like doing things legally......and most of the time I pretty much do that.....At the end of the day Ifeel I have better results.I'd rather be able to shoot my way out of a bad situation legally than try to scare the sh-t out of the bad guy with my mean sounding scooter in hopes he won't hurt me or my family. To my knowledge, having after market mufflers on my RC has had very little if anything to do with keeping me safe while riding my cycle. I have in the past, and if I continue to ride, will rely on my years of building good riding skills to help keep me safe. The same way I will rely on my abillities for personal protection using my pistol. It's not always the gun or how loud it is that determines the outcome of a situation.....more often it's how skillful the shooter is. Practicex three+ great shot+better riding skills= better chance of survival !!!!!!!!

I think most places already have laws/ordinances in place regarding noise levels. It seems they should just enforce the laws already on the books rather than pass new laws targeting motorcycles.
Also, like the article said, the law should apply to all vehicles or all causes of noise rather than specifically targeting motorcycles.

The noise laws that crack me up the most are these railroad "quiet zones" where the engineers are not allowed to sound the horn due to the nearby homes. I mean really... did some unscrupulous realtor hide the tracks so these hypersensitive homeowners would see them?

Did you read the new AIM mag, in colorodo, its 80db at 25" away and it seems they specificily target motorcycles.

Here in Texas and in alabama they don't bother us for loud pipes or half of the other things I hear about.
Somebody needs to find out who the politicians are and vote them out of office that comes up with these kind of laws. If not they are gonna keep coming.

Exactly. I have DOT approved tires on one of my Ramchargers you can probably hear farther away than my bike.

My sentiments exactly.....well I ain't fat, but the rest says it very well.

Oh and for those who say that MC's are not important, or are for pleasure.....well so is a Vette or a Ferrari.....anyhow....with the way the USA is going so "green" these days a MC is way more green than a Vette, as far as emissions, fuel consumption, materials used to build it, and on and on.

If they want to control the sound of MC's than all they have to is require that every year or two the bike needs to be inspected, and at that time a db. meter can check the exhaust sound level. This is almost how its done in NJ right now. This way as soon as I get my 2 year inspection sticker affixed to my license plate, I can go back home and put my V&H pipes back on.

Look heres the deal.....if you dont like the noises ourmodern society produces on adaily basis.....hit the friggen ramp and keep going until you get some place where there are very few people (and even fewer Harley's). I for one am willing to put up with the kids who feel its necessary to spend 5X what their car is worth on a audio/video system....or the kids who like to put old coffee cans on the end of their exhaust systems and buzz around all night. But when I want to go out on one of my bikes (both of which have very loud exhaust systems), I dont want hear any static from anyone including the local law. Dont our local, state, and fed law menhave some terrorist to go after instead of bothering me.

In ANY case.....I will be riding my bikes with the exhaust systems as loud, or quiet as I dam well please for many many years to come God willing......if its legal or not.
