Default Seat Gel

Good day all.

I recently did some major mods to my LRS, one of which being a new rear fender. With this new fender, came a new seat to fit, which is a C & C Fatboy seat. Great looking seat and very well made, by the way. Kudos to Chuck, Chuy and team. I've been thinking of adding gel to the seat and wondering if, in anyone's opinion, it would be worth it.

I know that gel can be a bit stiff when riding in the colder months and takes a minute to soften. Conversely, I am aware that in the summer, when the bike sits in the sun for a time, it can be hot. I'm just wondering if the gel adds comfort, and if so, if it's enough to be worth it.

So, what say you? I'm headed down to C & C at some point this week or next to pick up a different seat for my Road King and wondering if I should take the seat from for LRS to have them add in the gel.

Appreciate your insight.

I have a custom seat on my Shovel with gel in it. It's more comfortable than stock, but like you said, the gel absorbs heat.
I toss a shirt over it if parked in the sun. It's OK, but probably wouldn't go that route again.

I redid my seat myself and was warned about heat and gel so inserted a super slim sheet of that whitish foam sheeting. I dont know what its called. Its almost like material but not. Very thin packing material sheeting.

Anyways, thats on the top layer, just under the black vinyl and while the seat WILL get hot, I dont think Im in any danger to burnin the boys.

With the high quality memory foams available today I don't see the need for gel anymore. You can get all the comfort of gel with none of the temperature-retaining properties you mentioned.

Living as I do in a place with plenty of cold weather gel is a definite no for me; that's why I'll never own a Saddleman seat as they use gel in all of theirs.

I did the same thing. A couple of layers of thin foam between the gel and cover and you are good to go. It does not collect nearly as much heat that way. I found the gel made a difference on the FB.

On the RK, it's a cheap aftermarket CVO copy seat, and it turned out to be one of the most comfortable seats I have ever had on a bike. Go figure...

I sell medical cushion and I believe that Betterqualityfoams or visco elastic foams are better than gel. I thing that air pockets are even better …

I am on my 2nd C&C custom seat, and I went without gel this time. The one I had built for my Dyna had the gel, and man in the sun that thing was so damn hot, you could not sit on it for over an hour. It was brutal. Comfy, but no good for summer.
