DID THAT.
Most times, I look up the part numbers and price on HD's site.
Another time, I went in looking for those little rings that hold the exhaust pipe on. Did a thread on it a while back.
I priced them on the HD website and got the part number. I mosey's up to the counter and give him the part number. He comes back out with two (like I stated) and then gives me a price almost double what HD had them listed for on the website. Now, they were only like $1.20 or something like that, but with their funky math, it came out to a little over six dollars pre-tax.
Part number 18- "Retaining Ring" $1.22
I questioned him and said what HD listed them at on the website, to which the counter guy said, "Well, that's what they are here. Do you want them?"
I'm always looking for a reason to go ride over by the other HD dealer, but not this day. Wanted to get things done. And, truth be told, it didn't cost me a big amount more, and they didn't make enough money to pay that guy's wage for one hour. But, it did leave a sour taste. And, I've resolved to make it back in the free hot dogs and sodas they offer each Saturday.
I typically go to the other dealer for purchases, after I ride over and get my free hot dog, hamburger, and a couple of sodas.
you're reading the listing wrong. just because it says '2' does not mean that they come packaged that way. it just means that you need 2 of them. for example, the flange right below that, item 19. you need 2 of them also, and they come packaged as a single unit for $9 each.
If you want some "bling", order a set of the Skull Ignition Keys, HD Part Number: 71040-04.
You'll need your key-code.
Save your money. My wife got me the barrel one as a gift some years ago. VERY cheaply made, the barrel actually split, making it useless. Didn't last one year, and I didn't even use it that much.
