Default Tire Pressure

Very new to owning a Harley, always ran 40 psi in my Vtx for milage and tire wear. How about a 08 Street Glide, whats a recommended psi to run ? Or do you run the pressures in the manual? Thanks in advance. Ride Safe Jrsess[sm=confused06.gif]

I run what's in my factory service manual, which is 34 psi. My dad, a retired deisel mechanic runs his at the max pressure on the sidewall, which is 42 psi.

It says on the front of your frame, mine says 30 front and 40 back. I just checked mine and they are a little under, 22.5 in front and 36 in back.

I agree with electaRICK. Each tire manufacturer test their own products and knows the proper pressure. The service manual is based on Harley's old standby which is Dunlop tires. This may not be the best pressure if you are running Meztler or another brand of tire.

Check them every couple of weeks or so. Air naturally seeps through all of them in time and pressure drops. My van, bike and aircraft all exibit this trait. For some reason in winter they won't lose air. Rubber molocules must shrink or something. So far my bike drops about 1-2 lbs. per week in both tires.

I'd keep it where the tire man recommends.

It does depend on the situation.....load....two up...??? You cant always go with what it says on the side wall of the tire. I run Metzler Marathon ME880's and I love them, and I been running Metzlers of one type or another for many years.....the ride quality, wet traction, extended tread life.....I would never go back to Dunlops.....but I'm getting off track.
On the Metzler's it says 40PSI cold (Max)......I usually run mine at 38PSI rear, and 36PSI front. 99% of the time I go with what it says in the owners manual, or FACTORY service manual.....not with what it says on the sidewall. The sidewall pressure rating is given as a maximum PSI....not optimum normal riding pressure.
