Default Jacket knowledge please...

I recently got a gorgeous HD jacket and wondered whether the amazing community here could help me...

I've definitely identified it
as a Cycle King from approx 1991 with part number 98108-90VM according to the 1991 clothing guide (relevant page below). I have three questions:

1) What leather specifically (e.g. steerhide, cowhide) and what quality of leather (eg. full grain, top grain) is this made from? There is what appears to be a noticeable scar in the skin which maybe means full...
2) There are four snaps for a fur collar - are these available from anywhere as an original HD piece to match, rather than having to measure up and have a custom one made?
3) is it known which company made these for Harley Davidson in Korea at this time?

The label shows:
p/o HD90063
mfd by 02
prod 9601 (or) 9801
inspector SIMON C

I am posting this to three different forums to see who can enlighten me - many thanks!

Congratulations on your first post to HDF, to the Forum.

Nice jacket, enjoy it. Cannot help with your questions.

When you get the chance, post a couple of pictures with you wearing it on your motorcycle. You do have a Harley correct?

Hey wow - thanks for the warm responses! I don't really see the need for this level of sarcasm to a new user. Yes this is my first post - but I have haunted the boards for quite a while so I do think the community is amazing. Although not so much, perhaps, based on the sarcastic replies...

No - I don't have a Harley. Long wanted one hence why the jacket rather than an unbranded Perfecto.

No man bun - shave my head thank you very much.

Suggest if anyone does have advice re. the jacket, please do let me know. Feel free not to waste your energies with further meanness tho!

Best - fishtwig

OP - For what it's worth, it's a nice jacket, but just wear it. As for matching snaps, once the fake fur collar is on, you can't see the snaps.

If you're not going to use the collar, (I myself wouldn't), you could steal one from some other place on the jacket and replace that stolen one with a generic. Or just replace the collar snaps with generic. sourcing the 30+ year old snaps will be impossible, IMO.

If, by chance, you're looking to peddle it, matching snaps will mean nothing to the buyer. Just wear it and enjoy it.

1. To the OP; first we get many first time posters wanting to know the value, etc. of a jacket they found in a thrift store, swap meet and wanting to know the value and way to said jacket.
2. If you have been a regular reader of the forum, then you should have seen some of these posts.
3. This is a Harley motorcycle forum and as such, having a thick skin is a good thing.
4. A first time post like yours without a proper introduction is always subject to scrutiny and maybe some sarcasm.
5. Enjoy your jacket and your time here.

Best Regards.

Default Jacket knowledge

I'll give it a go.
I have and original Willie G jacket bought new in 1989..Two years older than the one you show in the 91 catalog. Harley made in China..Your is probably too. Full grain cowhide, drum dried ,black leather 1.3 to 1.5 m/m thick leather. Nice quality jacket which still looks new.I'm no antique expert but I would say it's probably worth $200-$250 bucks on a good day. If,made in American made possibly a couple of bucks more. That's only if you find someone like yourself who really wants that particular jacket.. Leather jackets are like fleas in dogs backs especially in the Harley community. It's the honesty of the
Harley guys that may be construed as course. They tell it to you straight with no filter, the way they see it. No bullshit. Something everyone these days needs from time to time. Enjoy wearing your jacket.
