Opinions on extended warranty
will you ride it like the only ***** in the harbor?
then do what I did, get an ESP and put a **** ton of miles on it....the ESP paid for itself many times....if it's a bar hopper and a 'garage queen' don't waste your money
When I purchased my '18 Tri-Glide new (July, '18) I didn't initially purchase the H-D extended warranty.
I retuned to the dealership a few weeks later to purchase it but the price had greatly increased (new business manager had been hired) so I stubbornly refused to "pay the ransom"!
The "PLAN" at that time was to "ride the daylights" out of that trike!
So, I started researching extended warranty options and ended up with Discount ESP (which will expire in he summer of 2025) which I plan to renew.
Like other "well made PLANS" mine didn't work out as I had hoped.
I barely got the 1,000 miles on the trike during the summer (as I was busily "accessorizing" it) we had "stuff" going on and then I had an unexpected "quad by-pass surgery in October!
I did manage to get a "good trip" in to Newfoundland in 2019 and then the COVID really "hit the fan" in 2020 and that is party why I currently only have a tad over 18,000 miles on my trike.
IF, you ride a lot of miles annually (and consistently) and especially if you tend to tour greater distances away from home an extended warranty is well justified and like a good fiscal decision.
If you're a "weekend warrior" and/or don't put a lot of miles on your bike/trike or don't so a lot of distance or tour riding, taking the money that you would have paid for an extended warranty and "stashing it away" for when your bike does need repair may be a good idea for you.
A bike/trike sees to need more (frequent) repairs than a four-wheeled car or truck and those repairs can be just as much, if not more than those for a four-wheeled vehicle.
IF, you have the means/resources or a major credit card to get your bike repaired when needed, an extended warranty may not be as beneficial to you as it may be to others, so it comes down to an individual's choice to "roll-the-dice".
Speaking ONLY for myself, I've had several extended warranties and I've only had TWO repairs made (on one bike) and the cost of those repairs was much less than the cost of he extended warranty, so I'm basically "in-the-hole" on an investment vs return basis. BUT...I am well aware of the fact that just ONE simple "malfunction" on my trike could instantly go the other way!
I keep ALL of my vehicles well-maintained and serviced and I DON'T ride them hard or abuse them but "S**T Happens" so you need some kind of a "PLAN"!

They may make sense for some folks.
I don't buy extended warranties. Reading the plan, and running the numbers, it just doesn't make sense. This is the same with the service plan and the tire coverage. The few times I have had a problem, I just pay out of pocket. I still end up ahead.
I called to get the 1000 service done shortly after I go the bike and they told me to drop it off first thing Tuesday morning and they would get to it when they could(???).
I never brought my bike to them, for any service work or anything.
I have not read the fine print on that but I assume they would/could do anything they could to get out of actually honoring this 'warranty' whether I brought it there for service or not, if I ever did have an issue.
I would keep whatever money you would spend on an ESP, or HD extended warranty in a separate account if you have to, in case you need to cover any repairs but maybe that's just me.
Gave me another 3 or 4 years on the warranty. It gave me peace of mind which meant a lot to me but, I ended up never needing the coverage.
But, it was worth it to me to have it even if I didnt need it.
In hindsight would I do it again?
Yes, but I probably would have called Jim Palmer to get a better deal. I was just too damn lazy, it was easier at the time of doing the deal at the store to just get the one the dealer sold.

I got my notification in the mail that my factory warranty is about to expire. Sent an email to Motorcycle Agent for a quote, and plan to call the HD Dealer for their quote. Have 7K on the bike, owned since new. Really on the fence about the ESP.
Anyone have inputs on the 22 models and any issues that required heavy repairs?
