Default Opinions on extended warranty

Hey guys I'm considering purchasing my first new bike. It's a demo bike with only 20 miles on it but yet only 1 year of factory warranty remaining. Is it worth purchasing an extended warranty? Typically, I never buy one on anything including vehicles but like I said, never purchased a new Harley. Just curious on opinions. Hate to spend the extra money but at the same time, hate to purchase a new bike with only 12 months warranty.

There will be 2 answers, and a bunch of guys justifying their answers. Pick one.

1) You need it.
2) You don't

whether you decide to get one or not is gonna be your decision. base it on your comfort level of paying out of pocket, if, something happened. odds are it won't, but there's a non zero chance it will. in addition, look at how many miles you are going to be putting on the bike per year. the more miles, the higher chance of something going awry. if you're only going to ride on weekends to the coffee shop (not that there's anything wrong with that), good chance you'll never need warranty.

also, be aware that you don't have to make the decision right away. just have to do it before the factory warranty goes out. and, the price on it is negotiable. if you don't like the quote that you get from your dealer, try another one. or try jim palmer at motorcycleagent.com he used to make a living selling hd warranties at discount before he went out on his own.

@Jim Palmer - MotorcycleAgent.com is the person you need to talk to. Great coverage AND prices. He won’t be beat. Last I priced, he was HALF what Harley wanted.

Is the price difference between the demo bike and a new worth losing one year of warranty?

JMO, but if something serious is wrong with a bike you should discover it within a year.
If you're a person that rides a lot of miles annually it would definitely be a good idea to purchase an extended warranty and you are planning on keeping the bike for multiple consider a longer warranty.

Out of 8 new bikes purchased, I got a warranty on one. Plenty of stories out there for both sides of the coin on both HD and aftermarket warranties. I won't buy another one.

Depends on how long you want to keep it.

That's one factor. It also depends on how many miles you put on it per year. If you put 20K miles/year on it, it might make sense. If you put 3K miles/ year on it, it, it makes less sense.

Another factor is your ability to withstand large unexpected repair bills. I bought one from Jim Palmer because I wanted certainty as to my repair cost over the life of the policy.

everyone loves the idea of owning a bike, not many who do also love riding it

will you ride it like the only ***** in the harbor?

then do what I did, get an ESP and put a **** ton of miles on it....the ESP paid for itself many times....if it's a bar hopper and a 'garage queen' don't waste your money
