"Ol Biker" is the only one that made sense!! It's to sink the tranny with the RPM if ya hit it right it just slides right in. Been doing it for about 40 years now narry a problem. I never gave it a thought that it was cool I considered it all part of the ride!!!!!!!!!!!!
