Several years ago I was on my way to a late morning dental appointment in Dearborn/Detroit and as I exited off of I-96 onto M-39/Southfield Rd (which is a limited access, 55MPH four lane that tends to flood easily in the spring).
Even before getting onto M-59, the traffic started slowing down then the "stop and go" began.
Finally, as cars go near to the next "entrance lane" some started driving over the berm/grass and driving back up the (wrong way) entrance ramp.
I'm sittin' there (patiently) in my Silverado HD2500 4x4 as a Lincoln Navigator and a Cadillac Escalade are following (like sheep) the lawbreakers and at the top of the there's a cop with the "overheads" flashing!
As a kid I can remember them digging out the road and making Southfield Road ( M-39 ) into an expressway
I didn't see anything reckless or menacing in that video. I saw an experienced rider with a pair going about his busy day. Makes me feel proud to know the world isn't completely full of gutless weenies.
I've hit the shoulder more than a few times when the temps were crazy, and the the highway was a parking lot. You do what you gotta do, as safely as possible. I wouldn't post a video of it, though.
The one and only time I drove into DC, I got stuck on the way home for almost 4 hours. Had to shut down my bike several times because of the heat 95+ outside temp and didn’t want to ruin the engine. Finally got to an exit and took it. Heated DC metro area traffic. Never rode to work again until I moved to Germany, now I ride as long as the weather permits (fair weather rider).
