RIP Mr. Taylor. On the freeway you have to watch out for crazed psychos especially in your mirrors. I've been deliberately run off the road in Az by some guy wearing driving gloves in a Porsche. I didn't lose it, got back on the road and chased him around til I hit reserve. I was supposed to be at work..
They'll see you scooting along in the middle lane and 'accidentally' change lanes on you. It's too bad the haters act out. Some of the riders these days are just as bad.
I try to ride as safe as I possibly can, but some things like this, seem mostly unavoidable. I only take the freeway/highways when I absolutely have to. Not that a back road is safe from some drunk a-hole driving around mowing people down.
The Toledo driver was arrested under suspicion of operating while intoxicated. He is being held in the Monroe County Jail. His identity will not be released until he is arraigned.
The reason I don't ride at night on Friday, and weekend nights
A motorcyclist was killed in Mecosta Co when he lost control of his motorcycle while avoiding a deer in the road.
Woman was struck and killed by an out-of-control Jeep at the Silver Lake Dunes State Park drag strip, after pushing her two-year-old daughter out of the way.
Maybe it's better to stay home on Holiday weekends?
I've only had a couple of "memorable incidents" involving freeway riding but LOTS of them in city or even on two-lane roads.
However, back 30+/- years ago, I had a friend that was hit in a similar situation.
He was riding a metric touring bike in the far left lane of I-75 and was hit from hit and pushed into the median by a vehicle from his right-rear-end! The driver of that car HAD to see him! The driver didn't stop and there was never any proof that it was intentional but it certainly nearly lethal. He survived and fully recovered after a long recuperation and for a while the doctors were considering (and recommending) the amputation of his right leg.
He wasn't true biker or enthusiast and that was enough, along with the flack the he got from his family to convince him to never ride again.
