The good thing about stink is, you get the opportunity to rise above it. If your smart!

Well ... I was going to jump right in and start by saying ... although we havea percentage of some kind of negativity ... it all comes with the territory. You know .. Ying and Yang kinda thing. With these many members ... It's ain't gonna be a bed of roses...I can tell you that for free! Iagree with others who have advised you have tobe very selective in what you want to read or choose to believe. This forum is for entertainment purposes only.

Although this forum is a Harley Davidson enthusiast based forum, I don't think our majority have any problems with non Harley owners/riders. Of course, they like to raz the "RUB's" ... but in all seriousness would just as easily ride andconversewith them as they would anybodyand I also think pretty much everybody herehas little patience for idiots.

THEN ... I read the rest of the thread.

I can't believe how many ofour memberswere sooo quick to jump in andprove youabsolutely correct...especially with the negativity comment!
These guys (at least the ones who chose to respond)ARE a very negative group (for the most part..at least in this thread) ... there were a few who actually had good responses in defence ... the others ... well had nothing but insulting comments.

Flaming someone who has posted their thoughts about negativity is kinda ironic ... don't you think?

I still think ... as far as forums go... and considering the number of people (some complete strangers and some close friends) from all over the world who are part of this "community" ... This is still a pretty good place to hang around.

Take it for what it is ... The internet.

The upside of this is, as in a few other threads, these folks are all in one place, so if you don't like what they generally have to say, you can use the 'Block' feature on them all without leaving the thread, thus killing many birds with one stone.

I don't know if I can say that I have found anyone in particular offensive enough to block ... YET. Moderators seem to do avery good job of flushingthose guyswhere they belong. Even when you find someone is being particularily offensive...that doesn't neccessarily mean they are ALWAYS offensive every time they post. Haven't seen THAT happen yet....Then again, I don't read each and every thread, not to mention post.

I can see if a thread is going south for myself ....When I do, I may choose to respond, I may not, then againI may choose to follow and not respond ... and sometime I may choose to do neither ... Beauty of this kind of internet forum .. All the choices.

As with most online 'communities', there will always be a healthy mix of varying opinions, ideals, and convictions expressed toward any given topic on any given day. For most, that is what makes coming here so interesting. Personally, I'll always render my opinion on a subject irrespective of what its' general reception might be by the masses. That's what a discussion forum is all about; i.e. injecting and putting forth ones' opinion. There are those who will take issue with someone else's opinion (and that's fine). But rather than presenting an opposing stance, they often times resort to slanderous, personal attacks. Of which, typically have nothing to do with the originating issue at hand. This, too, is commonplace and to be expected given the mosaic of individuals we have both registered and participating on the forums.

Don't like a particular individual's opinions? Fine. Block, ignore, and don't read whatever the helll they have to say whenever they say it. Problem solved. Think there's too much negativity on the forums? Fine. Find another that suits your fancy. We're all adults here and should be able to discuss things in like fashion. And in those rare instances when the sshit does hit the fan? So what? If stuff like that truly does bother you, then I feel for you. Because it's a tough world out there....A helluva' lot tougher than being behind a keyboard discussing things with - for the most part - like-minded individuals.

In short, you have a few choices before you:

a. Suck it up, get over it,and give what you get when warranted and within reason.
b. Find another playground where the people aren't so mean and abrasive (as you term it)
c. Definitely get a thicker skin
d. All of the above

The forums are GREAT. I've acquired a ton of knowledge from folks a helluva' lot smarter and wiser than I as a result of my association. Yeah, there are those who take issue with my opinions on a regular basis. Do I care? Absolutely not. I don't allow others to dictate my way of thinking, et al. I mean, at the end of the day, we're all adults and shouldn't be taking this sshit so personal. If you can, when you can, and where you can - GET OUT THERE AND RIDE!

Bein' one of them thar Moderator-types, I'm surprised at this thread! Y'all are playin' purdy nice in this here sand box. But watch out for the turds buried in the sand.

As a Mod there is an unofficial "list" of members we tend to keep an eye on. There actually ain't a list, we just communicate about our problem children regularly. And for all y'all that ain't Mods I'd still bet most could fill in the names pretty easily.

Bikergal, the boys have been treatin' this one with kid gloves. If'n a stunt like this was done IRL in a group of bikers the perp wouldbe first be offered friendly corrective advice. Then he'd beignored. If he kept at it he'd get educated. And it doesn't matter whether anyone agrees with that principle of operating, it's justthe way it is.

The howlin' coyote has a right to express his opinion(s). He has the obligation to take whatever comes his way for expressin' 'em. Two-sided coin and all . . .

Anyone disliking someone else's opinions has the right to respond. Leave out the name-callin' and such and there likely won't be a problem with the Mods or Big Admin. Couple of y'all have stepped right close to the line in here, but all in all, y'all been OK. I have no problems with what has happened to this point.

Sumpin' for a couple of y'all to chew on: When someone posts a rant, do a little background on the poster. Might be a good ol' boy just havin' a bad day. Then you can respond appropriately. Might be a regular whack-job spittin' out more drivel. Then you can respond appropriately. Easy enough, eh?

There is lots of basic information and helpful advice here on HDForums, but there is also a side to it where much of it is a poor attitude to anything or anyone who isn't 100% Harley Davidson, rides a metric, comments on what people ride, drive, or wear, calling people cagers, RUBs, wanna-be's because they don't fit the "real biker image" to some ofthe standards of certain Harley owners.
Some here even badmouth Harley Davidson for not being the same company they were years ago.

I may badmouth unsafe sportbike riders, but that is because they pose a danger to everyone, not just to themselves, but I could care less what type or brand of bike they have. If a guy wants a Yamaha that looks like a Harley then all the power to him for just wanting to own and enjoy a motorcycle. If some rich guy buys the most expensive bike there is and never rides it, then why should it matter to you? Jealous?

Why should it matter what brand of t-shirt someone wears or if people wear patches and pins on their jackets? Let's set our standards a bit more higher and with something much more important.

Basically, there are some here with certain opinions and standards which actually kill the joy of owning a motorcycle, PERIOD, and are the true posers.

For those who gave me advice and help, I do thank you and fully appreciate it, but I may have to look for a different motorcycle forum or just enjoy the ride on my own.
Who died and made you queen? You stand up and declare "there IS TOO MUCH..." blow it out yer rear end man.

If you can't take some razzing and different opinions, you need to grow some thicker skin.

If you can't afford a genuine HD, or custom based off an HD... but want to be part of the HD crowd... guess what? Get a second job and earn it.

A soother may be in order. I think it may alleviate your problem.
