So my girl and I want to get an intercom so we can talk from different bikes. Any suggestions? We don't wear fullface helmets and we both have windshields so the wind noise shouldn't be too bad.
Basically, there’s Sena and Cardo. I assume you both wear half-helmets, so you would need to choose a headset that works with your helmets and choose a compatible communications unit.
We both wear full face helmets. The mic and speakers do a good enough job of both intercom (rider to pillion) and also for music if I feel like it when solo. At highway speeds with the Harley exhaust it can be a little hard to hear clearly. Under 100kph/60mph it is fine. You can make and take calls too, but I've never done that. Buttons are easy to use even with thick gloves.
The package came with both the small microphone and the "boom" style mic for open face helmets.
I have Cardo NEO unit, my riding buddy's have Cardo PackTalk Bold. They all work well. I have 1/2 helmet and open face. Half helmet I use ear plugs and can hear music, conversation and road noise fine. On the open face I have the JBL 45mm speaker set installed and I can hear the music, convo etc fine. No real wind noise on the open face. We are happy with the Cardo units. I listen to music from my phone, and I can also take or make calls. But have not, and will not, while riding. If someone calls they can leave message and I'll return call when stopped. I think Cardo is the best, but I do believe both systems are good. Good luck on your final decision.
Cardo pack talk bold works just fine with an open helmet. You will get occasional wind noise but it doesn't last. Naturally, the faster you go the more wind you have to contend with.
Wife and I have Cardo PackTalk Bold units - in my opinion, they work extremely well. The Bold unit has been discontinued, and the current model is the PackTalk Edge.
I don't think you can even find the Bold anywhere. We had Cardo at our chapter meeting the other day - the new Edge is really a nice unit. If something happens to my Bold, I will definitely replace with the Edge.
Wife has a half helmet - can share a picture if you need to see one.
