Ummmm, I had a friend that had a sweet girlfriend but he also had this bar fly on the side where we all went for a couple of beers. One night when he was out with his girlfriend, I went home with his sideline girl and he got pissed. Now I look at that the same way as this your friend buying the bike you wanted.
If I didn't go home with that girl, someone else at the bar would have, might as well been me!
Same for the bike, if he didn't buy it someone else would have. (the girl and the bike were available) Now if I went home with his girlfriend or your friend bought the bike actually knowing you were on your way to buy it that is a different story.
Wish him well and buy what you want. Now if you really want to get revenge, throw a few hop up mods in the motor and don't tell him. Soon or later you'll be riding side by side and you'll blow his doors in.
I agree with the majority here, Buy what you want. However; if your friend starts riding around wearing the same outfits as you?????? Well, then again, how many riders wear a black leather jacket??
If that is the bike you really want then buy it. If you don't want it just because your friend bought one then maybe you better reevaluate your decision. Might not be the bike your really wanted anyway. Either that or you have a complex about looking like you copied him.
