Has anyone on this forum had their Harley Davidson warranty revoked as a result of using an aftermarket Tuner?

The wording is drive train warranty I believe. If something else were to go wrong then that will be covered.

I have a feeling those that get their bikes tuned are doing so after warranty has finished or have no intention of ever seeing the dealer again after purchase.

My understanding is that they cant void your warranty unless its an issue specifically related to your mod. Meaning if you install a tuner, and your rear brake master cylinder blows up, it would still be covered.

Better question to ask your dealer though.

Not necessarily

I installed a PV4 tuner, RS528 cam, intake, exhaust, clutch, comp ramp, oil pump, cam plate, lifters, pushrods, handlebars, and all kinds of other stuff all by myself at home within a couple weeks of buying my bike new.

I knew going in that my warranty wasnt likely to survive but I knew what I wanted for the bike and wasn't about to wait 2 years for it. I'm not getting any younger

Did you have any issues that may have voided the “warranty”? It’s an old wives tail that too many perpetrate…personally, I had no intention on changing my new bike, why I bought it. Friends bought theirs to do what you did and still going strong or traded up already…they’re rich, me, frugal. I did put on a aftermarket exhaust to eliminate the catalytic converter, and I had a service plan. Was never mentioned when I took it in every 5k. My .02…and I installed it myself.

It's simple, and is spelled out clearly in the manual: use a non-EPA tuner and Harley will no longer provide warranty service on any of the powertrain components.

Use a tuner and your radio **** breaks? Harley will repair it under warranty.

Use a tuner and your piston comes blasting out of the cylinder? No warranty coverage.

Bought a $4,000 extended warranty, then used a tuner, and a piston rod breaks? No warranty on any powertrain components, during the factory period or during your extended warranty.

And before anyone gets their panties in a bunch about Magnuson Moss, Magnuson Moss is about the right to repair. Not the right to violate federal law (the Clean Air Act) with impunity. Replacement parts = ok. Hop-up parts = no warranty and maybe a fine.

If you tune it and have to bring it in to the dealer for anything, they plug in a digital technician, it will automatically flag the bike as having the CPU altered. Now to avoid all that nonsense, get a ThunderMax, they'll never know about it, just need to swap the stock ECU back in when you bring it in for service.

On the new bikes the tmax will generate a mileage mismatch with bcm . Also, what are you going to do if you happen to travel and need service? Also, the tmax uses wide band O2 sensors, and anything less than15 years or so old uses narrow band. Which would mean you would have to swap those out too. Along with the fact, that if the bike is modified, its going to run like dog crap with the stock ECM , parts reinstalled and possibly throw codes.

Default Me figures…

If you’re able to not only buy a 35k plus Harley MF’n Davidson but break into the engine immediately, I figure if the MF’r blows up, and I personally have yet to see one amongst the folks I ride with, but someone will chime in about their sisters former boyfriend who has a cousin that knows someone, you have the money to fix it and shouldn’t care less about a warranty. It’s why I have 45k plus on my RGS, I did what I wanted and knew the “what if scenarios” and it’s internally stock. 114 M8. I’ve added what I call “jewelry” but if you’re worried about the warranty, just ride it.

Not sure what old wives tale you are referring to? If you do a bunch of invasive work on the bike, and then something breaks, HD will definitely tell you you go away
if you try to make a warranty claim on something that's related to the mods you did. Its definitely not an old wives tale. Been told to me directly by multiple dealers over the years
