Default Zipper/jacket repair

So I’ve got an old Drag Specialties jacket that my dad gave me from the 80’s. I really like wearing it on cooler days. The last time I took it out of the closet the zipper pulled apart. The sleeve zippers are starting to come unsewn from the sleeves and it just needs some general attention. The leather is in great shape and the jacket is still one of the best ones I’ve got. Any go-to sources to have it repaired? I don’t know and can’t find anyone local to me in the Beaumont/Southeast Tx area.

Dry cleaners usually have an alterations person, and there are asian tailor shops scattered around my area. Call a dry cleaner first and ask them.

A good alteration place should be able to handle it, are you near any of the military installations in Texas? They will normally have more than one sewing place near by. Also check into local upholstery shops that do canvas or custom interiors, if they don’t they may be aware of those that do.

Not close to any of the bases. We have a few alteration places around but I don’t know that I’d trust any of them. I sort of consider this an heirloom kind of jacket.

Up my way (Michigan) we have many leather goods stores that cater to us bikers.
I'm fortunate enough to have one such shop less that 15 miles from me and the owner also has another store closer to the Detroit area.
Google leather shops in your arear and you may be surprised how close one may be.

Another option would be checking for bike "swap meets" (which are usually held in the spring and fall months of he year) in your area as some of the larger ones usually have various vendors and some offer leather repairs/sewing on patches, etc, for a decent price.

This worked for me....

Regular alteration places don't have the machine needed to sew heavy leather.

Check shoe repair stores nearby that can fix leather as well. Check to see if there is a shoe repair place near you.

Hell, with all the cowboy boots down there, there's gotta be someone that works on leather goods

We can't help you with your trust issues. Sometimes you just got to take a leap of faith.
