Face protection depends on what type of bike you ride and the windshield (if any) on that bike,
Google rain masks for motorcyclists.
There are a number of suppliers that have various styles of masks that will protect your face from rain, cold or dust.
I ride a Tri-Glide and I also have a Heritage Softail Springer with a windshield.
In fact I would NEVER ride a bike without a windshield or fairing.
For 90%+ of my riding I wear a 1/2 shell helmet with a "drop-down" tinted plastic shield.
This works great for a short ride during a light, fast shower but IF I'm on a trip I ALWAYS take my FF Modular for when the weather turns wet and/or dark.
Having your rain jacket on with the hood over your head before putting your helmet on makes a huge difference in how wet you will get during a rain storm, especially on a long ride in continuous.
Other wise you will be like a member of our HOG Chapter that had major face reconstruction wearing one when he was struck by a car on his trike and did a face plant.
He is okay now after several surgeries and riding again with full face. He spoke with our chapter and urged everyone to consider FF and other gear.
I have worn my modular 100% since.
i wear a full face all the time, im just pointing out the obvious that even a brain bucket protects more than nothing.
a half helmet will definately offer more protection than none at all.
Maybe. That would depend on the nature of the crash. I sustained facial injuries and a concussion when I crashed with a 3/4 helmet.
Why aren't half helmets and goggles more popular with dirt bikers? Because they want real protection.

no maybes about it. I dont see how someone can say a half helmet doesnt protect at all. They protect less stuff than a full face, but not nothing. If you got concussed with a half helmet you may well have been dead with no helmet.

There's no telling what a half helmet would have done when hy head hit that car. Now I believe in dressing for the crash, not the ride. I threw my half helmets away.
As for the rain: when it's raining so hard that a windshield makes no difference, there's not much you can do to protect your face when you're wearing a half helmet. Been there, done that.
