I thought it was just me but a swear a few weeks ago I was clicking the heck out of the OEM parts lookup and it was going nowhere. Then last week I tried again and was able to successfully search. Perhaps I was not scrolling far enough. I almost always have questions, so in spite of it being a PITA, I usually just do a print-screen and take the paper to the dealer to get the correct information and ultimately order the parts. I have not tried to put parts in a shopping cart and complete an order.
Personally, I am lucky that the dealer is only 20 minutes from my house and on my way home from work.
Note: I was actually looking for older Softail Deluxe saddlebag parts to replace some of my 19 Heritage parts since many parts are compatible. Many parts were there. Saddlebag parts some were not. Grrr
Yep. When you click Purchase options it very often tells you dealer exclusive or out of stock and contact local dealer.
I just wanted to order some spark plugs for a 114 M8 two weeks ago. Nope, contact your dealer. Im not riding an hour round trip for that and I dont need them this minute. I just write the part number on a piece of paper and put it in my saddle bag for the next time I stop in a dealer.
or buy after market when I can.
the plugs are just private label ngks, i just bought a set last night for my twin cam.
The HD set I just bought were made in India. I thought NGKs were made in Japan, USA and Thailand.
and for some reason i cant find what i read that said ngk anymore. Ngk makes good plugs so thats whats in it. Im seeing champion now as hds oem when i google search.

You're right, I bought 4 plugs last week I just assumed they were made in USA, nope "Made in India" $9.95 each here too ($7.13 USD) I haven't put them in yet I just went to look at the boxes.

What is copper coat? I just bought the standard OEM HD-6R10 that my service manual says to put in "clean and dry" not with anti seize that some mechanics put on when I had it serviced by them. That also opens another can of worms, I don't use anti seize but learned now from hattitude on the service charge plug change thread: "If you use anti-seize and then torque the plugs, the torque specs are for dry threads, so back off the torque spec to avoid damage. Some torque guides say to reduce max torque by 25-30% when using a lubricant on a dry thread torque spec."
I'm not a mechanic and would not have know to lower the torque when using anti seize, now that I think about it, that makes sense but I'd have never know that. Knowing me I'd have it in way too tight and phucked up something.
Bottom line I use basic OEM 6R10 plug, re check the gap I don't trust them when they say they come pre-gapped and they go in dry and clean nothing on threads. I'm guessing I just poured more gas on the spark plug debate. My manual also says change every 2 years or 48,000 kilometers here in Canada, I change every 16,000 way earlier but I'm neurotic so I don't care.
