It appears that ordering parts has gotten worse.

The dealer can choke on their greed. There's a local shop in town that I worked for years ago, and I'm friends with the owner today, I'll gladly go to him because #1, it's a small family owned business #2 he treats people right, and #3 that shop can find parts for practically anything. Oh and they've got a couple really good mechanics that know their stuff like NOBODY else, including a dude that built a panhead he rides regularly.

I recently fell into this "trap." I finally found the protective film kit for the new 2026 Street Glide 3 Limited on the H-D website. Without paying much attention, I ordered the kit. Next thing I know is I am being sent a message that it would be delivered to a dealership in my state but not my preferred dealership. Oh well, I wait till I get an email from MOCO stating my kit had been delivered. I called the dealership only to be told the truck had arrived but the parts guy hadn't had time to check in the shipment. So I waited till yesterday and called again, and was told the parts guy was slammed. Finally, after the 3rd call that day, someone asks me what I needed, maybe they could help me. I told them what was going on and actually the lady said we can help find your kit. Well, she was actually able to find it. Turns out, no one their knew what it was. It came in a tube, much like a poster or decal would. So, parts thought it belonged to the apparel dept and had sent it there. Mind you, my name is on the label, and I am more than certain that there is no one working there that has the same name as me. Oh well, at least I have my kit and someone there took the time to help find it.

I've noticed that there are more "Dealer Exclusives" in the online catalog which forces you to travel to the dealer. They never seem to have the part and have to order it. So now you wait 7-14 days and have to go back to the shop to pick it up. Since this has happened I now shop on other sites. My dealer has a poor selection of parts and has to order everything. You'd think since Harley wants you to go shop to buy their parts that their dealers would be required to carry a certain amount of stock. No wonder shops are closing all over?
