Default What a Ride!

I bought a used 06' street glide a little over a month ago, it is my first motorcycle. I turned 30 this year....hadn't ridden since I was in HS when I bummed rides on friends bikes. None of my family or friends ride anymore so It has been quite a learning experience. Didn't really know the difference between a sportster from a softail 6 months ago. Every person I knew that rode a Harley I bombarded them with questions. I also learned a ton of info on here from posts and checking out pics of peoples rides. Took my MSF safety course in June. It took a few months to decide what bike was for me and to find a deal on a ride. This bike had just over 1000 miles on it and I have almost trippled that in a month. I even took it in for it's first service. The bike was set up exactly the way I would have set up a new bike if I would have had that much money. PCIII, Reinhart true duals with chrome tips, Stage 1 kit, quick detach sissy bar, a small spattering of chrome. It looked showroom new and even had a year left of the factory warrenty. The guy even took off the heel shifter which is exactly what I was gonna do anyway considering my huge feet. Only thing I've done so far is stick a fast aire 8" shield on it. I lucked out cause it was a lot more bike than I could afford new.

Anyway....tonight it all came together for me. After a few 1000 miles I'm getting much more comfortable with my ride. We are settling in together and starting to mesh!! Had some time to ride after work. Scooped about a 50 mile loop. Fall has came in with a fury this week....Boy the ride was great. About 55 degrees out with not a breath of wind. That brisk fall air hitting me in the face as I rode...so fresh it almost took my breath away. The sky just a huge blue. Harvest is just starting here in Iowa....the smell of freshly combined corn and turning crops as I rolled down the old curvy 2 lane county road. The glow of the evening sun and the beginning of fall colors......The bike was running great, sounding great....feeling solid and tracking like on a rail in the curves. Farmers and people out doing yardwork were throwing the big wave out. No traffic whatsover to deal with. I had some Elmore James playing on the cd player....This was exactly what I wanted when I decided to get a motorcycle. I couldn't stop grinnin'

I love it....I don't worry about work, or crap....I'm just rolling down the road....it's great. It really refreshed me and wiped away the stress. Riding makes working all the time almost bareable. Don't know what took me so long to come around.....I should have gotten a Harley years ago!!! I'm allready looking forward to all the other miles and trips I put on this bike. It's not the destination.....it's the journey....I think I'm finally on my way!

Don't know what the reason for this post is....mainly I just wanted to say thanks for sharing all your info and experiences....it all was a huge help to this beginner.

Here is a pic of my SG I took right after I got it.

Outstanding.......sweet bike BTW. Just keep her clean and in tune, and she will treat you well, with many more carefree miles to come.

Good luck bro!

Welcome to the forum. You have a nice looking bike and you made a good choice in the buying an '06 SG. I'm sure you are enjoying it and there is nothing like a bagger. It looks likethe color is Black Pearl. You definitely did the right thing by taking the MSF course before getting your bike. I'm sure we will be seeing a lot of posts from youon this forum now that you have your bike.

Nice ride. It's taking my mind off the Road King.
Got back into riding after 40 years. Know the feeling. Am on my second bike in 3 months, started back with a Sportster. It was like I never got off my 1957 Triumph 650.

If you aren't a writer, you should be! That post makes me want to go hop on my sporty right now!!! I also live in corn country and I understand all about the fall harvest getting here. Great riding weather! Ride safe.
