Maybe in some parts of the country but not in Wisconsin and we're known for harrassing speeders. My employer had a state trooper give us a presentation on safe trailering a few years ago and during the question and answer session one of my coworkers asked what their criteria was for pulling someone over for speeding. The trooper said,
'we don't even get excited until you're at least 10 over.'
Unless you're passing through with out of state plates

Then why give him the ticket? why not just pull him over and explain the new law to him as a public servant? not beating you up as a LEO but your job is not strictly giving tickets or making arrest is it?
I think it's pretty ridiculous to expect to not be ticketed for going 8 over in a 30mph residential zone with no extenuating circumstances.
If he's not going to ticket someone for exceeding the posted maximum speed limit by, what, 25%, then what should he ticket someone for?
Motorcycle LEO pulled me over for 38 in a 30.
. LEO " Thank you for pulling over. Are those after market pipes? Monsterdeluxe "yes sir" LEO "You should get those fixed, someone might get you for it. You where speeding, pay the $62.00 and no points. One other thing, why arent you wearing a helmet, its in your best interest. Your body can take it, you really should be wearing a helmet. My wife is a nurse and the head injuries are the worst. Nice bike, have a good day."
He seemed more concerned about me not wearing a helmet.
Here are the pipes.
Funny about the helmet because on my way into work today what doI seestopped at a light a LEO on his RK custom with NO helmet on. Just goes to show its still the riders choice at least here in Colorado.
I'm a retired leo also. When I was an appointed deputy in the 60's and 70's in a rural Illinois county, I wrote 40 citations in 8 years because the sheriff was worried that if you wrote a ticket it might be to a "republican." It was a complete turnaround when I left to go to a municipality where the mayor and board wanted each officer to write 150% of his pay each day in tickets. I would write 20 to 30 in a eight hour shift. The semi drivers called me busy bear. When I became chief my department went 60 months with an increase in fines each month. As I grew older, I felt it was wrong to use a police department as a income source. Some department do and some don't.
Sounds to me like the LEO did his job properly and treated you with the respect anyone is deserving of. So why would anyone on the forum object to a good cop doing the right thing? I appreciate your attitude towards the officer and the contact.
Cops ask about your mufflers......just shrug your shoulders and
and mumble something about how you are not a mechanic and
it runs nice."I am not sure what 'after market' means , Sir."
Then mention that you have a "Puppy." and that "Wapner" is
on at six..definantly six. Clasp your hands and rock back and forth.
(worth a try)
