a ticket for 38 in a 30???
I was a cop for many years( now retired )and I think that absolutely chickenchit.
Disagree. Where I am, 30mph is generally in a residential area or very busy commercial area. In neighborhoods with kids possibly running out between parked cars, 38 can be deadly. I don't always obey the speed limit but I try to ride according to conditions. If the cop was chickenchit he would have also got him for the pipes IMO.
I have been pulled over twice in the last couple of months for speeding. I am always respectful to the police, as it is there job. Both times they let me go. I simple told them the truth, as to why I was speeding. They seemed to understand, and both agreed they would have been heavy footed given the same circumstance. Police are just people, like all of us. Doing a job, they either love, or hate. Just like all of us. The only difference, as far as I am concerned, is that they are willing to give their life, to protect mine or my families. Just like our brave soldiers fighting in a war that most don't want to be in. I know that they all would rather be home with their own families. It is their job. And for that, I thank them all.
Motorcycle LEO pulled me over for 38 in a 30.
. LEO " Thank you for pulling over. Are those after market pipes? Monsterdeluxe "yes sir" LEO "You should get those fixed, someone might get you for it. You where speeding, pay the $62.00 and no points. One other thing, why arent you wearing a helmet, its in your best interest. Your body can take it, you really should be wearing a helmet. My wife is a nurse and the head injuries are the worst. Nice bike, have a good day."
He seemed more concerned about me not wearing a helmet.
Here are the pipes.
It pays big time when you stay calm, and politely truthfullyanswer the cops questions. He also sounded like a reasonably calm cop.
I know a few state troopers from MA., and they always tell me when you asa biker gets pulled over, just stay calm, keep you hands on the gas tank, and just answer the questions. Cops get REAL nerveous when a biker reaches into his jacket to pull out papers, so another tip: Tell the cop, your papers are in your inside left jacket pocket. The cops like to know what moves you are going to make. Many times they will give you a break if the stop goes smoothly..... but anything 15-20 mph over the posted zone, get ready to write a check......

I think you are missing the point. He may have gotten what you perceive to be a chickenchit ticket. But, he was given a warning on the pipes. There have been numerous threads about Denver's crackdown on aftermarket pipes, and the stop may have been a pre text to giving the guy a warning for the pipes.
I received a ticket for "Disorderly Conduct with a Motor vehicle" $89 and no points. Court date was a Wed at 9am. I think it is just a cute way for them to get the money and not have to worry about you fighting it.
BTW, the ticket was because I "Laid a Patch of Rubber" comming out of work. My CAmero has a locker in it. Any turn taken under power, even the slightest bit, engages the locker and makes the inside tire chirp. and I was also doing 29 in a 25.

heyI got the same ticket in my 69 firebird 49 in a 45 about 5 foot from a 50 mph sign. dang tires chirpped when i was rounding the corner and the tranny shifted into second. The guy just wanted a reason to search my car. I did not really mind the search in the area lots of drug problems. I did mind the ticket as a pretext.

Then why give him the ticket? why not just pull him over and explain the new law to him as a public servant? not beating you up as a LEO but your job is not strictly giving tickets or making arrest is it?
