I've never seen a Aerostitch suit...geez, it can't be THAT bad...is it pink or something?? can you post a pic?
ORIGINAL: lencap
A Road King pulls into the station, sees my Softail and heads toward the pump. I wave hello, and he sees me in the Hi-Viz suit and pulls away, shaking his head. He rides over to the other end of the station to fill up, and never even looks my way. Nice bike, and I'm sure he was a pleasant enough fellow, but he couldn't get past my gear.
Your problem isn't what you wear, it's that you give a $hit whether some total stranger waves to you. F'k em. Enjoy your ride, don't worry about others.
Lencap...my Aerostitch is grey and black. I get no ill effects from others. Can you show us a picture of your 'stitch? For you to be having that many guys be rude to you seems odd. Better yet, a picture of you in your 'stitch and your helmet. Does it look like a clown suit, or something? Something just seems odd here.
When you get to the site, select the Hi-Viz color, and black ballistic highlights - that's my suit. The MSF senior trainer had one, and swore that it saved his butt several times. He pushed all of the people in the class to buy one, as best I could tell he was sincere and didn't have any financial reason to push us. I've had mine for years, works as well as the day I got it, with some minor wear. Once/twice a year I wash and refinish it, keeps it waterproof and gets the old bug crud out of the fabric. I don't ride with a windshield.
Who care's if they don't wave. I'm riding and its my day. I'm out to have a good time. I put my hand down and if they put theirs down its cool. If not its still cool. Cause I'm having a great time.
Well, it certainly is bright. If somebody ran into you, they'd have a hard time saying they didn't see you! Other than that, I think you just have a bunch of anti-social people where you're at. If it really bothers you, go get some leathers. I hope this all works out for you.
I actually have a black leather Vanson perforated riding jacket that I use when it's really hot. It works fine and is incredibly well built and durable. It took over a year of riding to get it to even begin to break in. Although I use it all summer, I still prefer the better protection and flexibility of the full bodied Aerostich suit. I always wear a full face helmet and almost always ride without a windshield, although I do have one for the Softail - partly because of how easy it is to put on and take off.
As many of the posters have mentioned, if I let others govern what I wear because I want to gain approval of someone I've never met and will probably never see again, I've got a lot bigger problem than what color clothes I'm wearing. Like I said, I'm older and been riding for 35 years, enough time to know that things happen. With five surgeries on my arms over the last year and a half, I am adjsuting to my permanent disability by being sure I'm as prepared as I can be. If that means some people don't like it, that's unfortunate, but really not the point. The point is that by wearing what I'm wearing, and riding a Softail Deluxe, with the low seat height and very low center of gravity, all of my doctors agree that I can keep riding, although most of them are devoutly anti-motorcylce citing the well worn standard comment that riding is far too dangerous a hobby for anyone. I'd hate to think of what it would be like if I had to give up riding entirely - all in all the least of my troubles is the color of my suit.
Without sounding like a Hallmark card, I do very much appreciate the help and suggestions I've gotten on this site. Over the last month I've gone from a total novice concerning Harley bikes to being able to make an informed decision about which bike best suits my needs, and why. My dealer has been helpful and suportive and I don't mind him making a fair profit - we all benefit from a strong dealer network.
I've been a member of several other bike forums, having owned over 20 bikes in my life, but not one of them provided the information, support and open minded responses to my questions as this one did. Thanks to all, and be well - as many have said in these posts it's the ride that counts.
