Just an observation.
I've rode bikes all my live. It wasn't until recently that I bought a Harley. I have many friends that ride harleys. I know there people on a personal basis. Been around them for years. Now remember that most of my friends range from 37 to 65 . Now let's count the friends in ABATE and HOG. We get together a lot. We either ride or BBQ. Something's always going on somewhere.
I went and bought myself a Joe Rocket mesh armored jacket and a really nice black full face helmet with some Joe rocket gloves. Was a nice set up. But only to me as I soon found out. First time I pulled up to ride with my friends, the laugh was on me. I was called everything from Mr Joe Rocket to superman. The one primary word I kept hearing was "Not Cool" . So I ask one of my closest friends to help me out with this "Cool Thing" . He informed me of all the "cool" and "Not Cool " Fashions of motorcycle riding. Before I give you the list He gave me, remember , My friends are between 37 and 65.
First, Never wear a full face helmet.
Never wear any color but black.
Never wear full gloves unless it's winter.
Never wear tenny shoes. Especially white.
You're do rag must be manually tied. No fakes.
You only wear one piece of harley clothing at a time.
Never wear sport bike get up.
Never hold up your hand and wave at another biker, hold it down and point two fingers.
Never sit on another mans bike or touch it without permission.
And never act excited about going to the Harley shop.
And if I want to be excepted as way cool, Wear fingerless gloves, a vest and no helmet. Just dark shades with black boots.
After I was schooled by my friend, I got to looking at all the other Harley riders and noticed, this is nothing but a big fashion show for adults. I couldn't believe how much grown adults were influenced and manipulated by pear pressure or the "Cool Factor ". It made me think of the ol grade school day's. Maybe women are right. Men never do grow up. Then I noticed women were worse. I thought of what my mother taught me, be yourself. Individuality . Wonder what happen to it ?

I work as a contractor for the Navy. I ride a 2000 Fatboy with windshield. My commute is 105 miles round trip a day (mostly freeway). I wear my boots, slacks, polo shirt, leather jacket, full fingered gloves,DOT approved helmet and a bright vest(to get on the Navy base). I am probably the uncoolest looking Harley rider on the road.
Now I am going to lose sleep over all this....
Hahahahahahahah....NOT!Be yourself, not someone else's opinion of who you should be.
