Wow, the roads in TN must be a lot more civilized than here in the northeast. I see cars cutting off anything with wheels every day. 18 wheelers are no exception. You give these mindless twits too much credit for actually thinking these things through.

It's sort of the"big boat rule" = I'm bigger than you, therefor I have the right of way because I know you'll move out of the way!!!!!!!!!
I think that pretty well hits it on the head. Ever see a car pull out in front of a semi? Not very often. I don't think it's malice, or "you don't belong here", or anything else except for the simple fact that auto drivers don't see a bike as a threat. You can't flip them over, or otherwise injure them in a collision, so you aren't perceived as any type of threat to them. They don't think this as a conscious thought, but rather as a reaction to the threat at hand. EXAMPLE: If a fly gets in the car, most people swat at it and go on about their business. If a WASP gets in, they freak out and look for a place to pull off and open the doors in hope that it will fly out! Big trucks are the wasps....bikes are the flys. Not fair, and rather sad, but true nonetheless.

I drive a Tahoefor work and a Surburban occasionally as a personal vehicle. If I leave enough space for safety between me and the car in front , some dickweed will always squeeze into it. Tractor-trailers are respected to some degree, but too many cage drivers are aggressive and inconsiderate of others, and its not just property damage here, its someone's physical well-being! Least respected (of course) is probably motorcycles.

I am very curteous to others when I ride whether I'm in the right or not simply due to physics and the fact that I will always be the loser.

As I deal with these idiots daily, my road rage has disappeared for the most part. It has been replaced with the "unbelievable! what are they thinking" head shake.

I agree. Expecting it while riding doesn't cause me any undue hearburn. As you state, I just shake my head in wonderment and smile at the idiots. Sometimes I'll just give them a friendly wave, hoping that will cause them more embarrasement than if I went postal.

Maybe split that group of 12 into two groups of 6 on those two lane roads. Coming down an on ramp and seeing an un-ending string of bikes with no gap may invite someone to think they need to squeeze in.

I was talking to a young driver not so long ago who actualy believed that the yield signs on the on ramps to the interstates were there for the the cars on the interstate to let them know to be aware that cars are coming into traffic. Cripes!!! What an idiot. I told them they should go down to the licensing department and get a handbook and read it.

Most people don't give a rats azz if they kill someone rushing to get home to see Jerry Springer. It's all about them. The chit I see on the road everyday I never saw10, 15 or 20 years ago. If the cops reallywanted to do something about road rage, they would pass on thisnonsense of pulling over people for speeding andgo after the azz clowns that think they're some f*** nascar driver cutting in an out of lanes at 80 mph.

Make it known thatthese offenses will carry HUGE fines. If someone gets a $5,000 fine and loss of license for 6 months for reckless driving, I can gaurantee you there won't be a second offense. And if there is....make it $10,000 and loss of license fora year. Third offense is a $15,000 fine and permanent loss of license. Think this will get the attention of all the azz clowns out there? Yep.
Hey petemac, I agree that's a good start, but the real "come to Jesus" moment for these turds is when you confiscate their car/truck or whatever it is they're driving. Driving w/o a license is a daily news item here in NY/NJ. It is not at all uncommon for stories to include things like the driver has been suspended 50 times, or more. Not that the loss of license isn't important, but when the cars start being impounded and taken away is when they'll hopefully get a message. After all, when's the last time you bought a car and someone asked you for a driver's license unless you're going on a test drive?

I'm in the teaching stages with my GF, who has only been riding for a few months, and I always let her know that she HAS to watch out for them because they (Cagers) are way too busy with Phone/Make-up/Eating/Reading to even bother about her. It's the old Defensive Driving routine.
