About 12 of us took a nice ride yesterday traveling the backroads from Lynchburg to Charlottesville to Appomattox and then back to the starting point - Lynchburg.
At some points along the ride we did have to travel on limited access highways. A group of riders are more visable than a rider alone, of course, but seems not to have mattered much as time and again cages entering the highway bullied their way into the group. Thiscaused riders to perform evasive manuvers so as not to get run over, and somewere squeezed onto the middle of two lanes between cages.[&:] Don't these drivers know that they do not have the right-of-way to enter the traffic lane? We move over if the passing lane is clear, but when its occupied by other vehicles we have no place to go!
This scenerio played out multiple times. Are they just ignorant of traffic laws or do they not care?[:@]
I think it is part of the "dumbing of America". Drivers are so use to people moving over they have forgot what a yield sign is and just enter like they have the right of way. If I am not positve I am going to beat them I just get off the throttle and let them in. Ride safe.
Most people don't give a rats azz if they kill someone rushing to get home to see Jerry Springer. It's all about them. The chit I see on the road everyday I never saw10, 15 or 20 years ago. If the cops reallywanted to do something about road rage, they would pass on thisnonsense of pulling over people for speeding andgo after the azz clowns that think they're some f*** nascar driver cutting in an out of lanes at 80 mph.
Make it known thatthese offenses will carry HUGE fines. If someone gets a $5,000 fine and loss of license for 6 months for reckless driving, I can gaurantee you there won't be a second offense. And if there is....make it $10,000 and loss of license fora year. Third offense is a $15,000 fine and permanent loss of license. Think this will get the attention of all the azz clowns out there? Yep.
It's all of that for sure. One solution is don't get into a pissing match. Let a car in and then pull up behind them. Live and let live. You're trying to get somewhere and so are they. Enjoy the ride--be nice to a cager and they may do the same thing to someone else.
Most of the time, they don't get it because they don't ride. Their impression when they see a long line of bikers blocking the onramp (in their eyes)--damned bikers think they own the road. Yeah, ignorance is no excuse, but since leos aren't doing anything, a little courtesy can work wonders.
It seems to be "every man/woman for themseves" anymore
I call it the "I got mine FU" secenrio.
Sad but true, if I find a courteous driver that dirves withany form of logicon the road
I am shocked anymore.
Down here in Fl the drivers dont give a damn about bikes.. I ride I-4 everyday and the other morning I was in the middle lane maintaining the speed of traffic and the car in the right lane decided she wanted the middle lane, I was riding next to her window, She looked right atme then came to the middle lane, I had no choice but to go left myself and I was lucky that the guy in the left lane saw what was happening and backed off to give me room to get into the lane. I have no doubts that if she wanted the far left lane she would have continued over and forced me onto the shoulder..... There is no more consideration when driving it is everybody for themselves. Move or I'll hit you[:@]

It's sort of the"big boat rule" = I'm bigger than you, therefor I have the right of way because I know you'll move out of the way!!!!!!!!!
I think that pretty well hits it on the head. Ever see a car pull out in front of a semi? Not very often. I don't think it's malice, or "you don't belong here", or anything else except for the simple fact that auto drivers don't see a bike as a threat. You can't flip them over, or otherwise injure them in a collision, so you aren't perceived as any type of threat to them. They don't think this as a conscious thought, but rather as a reaction to the threat at hand. EXAMPLE: If a fly gets in the car, most people swat at it and go on about their business. If a WASP gets in, they freak out and look for a place to pull off and open the doors in hope that it will fly out! Big trucks are the wasps....bikes are the flys. Not fair, and rather sad, but true nonetheless.
There's no logic behind any of this. When I'm in my truck(that's pretty big) I get aholes in small cars try to cut in front of me at 70 - 80 mph when there's no room. I think it's more along the lines of, "f*** them, they'll slow down or movewhen they see me coming". Nothing better than speeding up and almost driving my truck up their azz to keep them from cutting me off and seeing the look on their face when you drive by them. They're shocked that someone will actually do something about it instead of being a sheep and allowing this bullying on the highway.
