A lot of Harley's new accessories introduced each year are copies of what other companies already have had. The turn signal mirrors that Harley has this year and the adjustable fairing wings are two items other companies have had previously, as examples.
I have Kuryakyn turn signal mirrors, Freedom Wings, and Kuryakin passenger footpegs--all bought before Harley had similar items. And, you can't even buy a trailer hitch from Harley.
Our Harley dealer has the sales books from many other companies and will willingly order their products, and discount them just as they do the Harley parts.
Last I looked, HD built motorcycles. Like the auto industry, the small stuff, especially accessories are bought from small independant companys, and resold under the HD name. Its foolish to pay a bunch extra for the same item, just so that you can get the bar & shield on the item. SE slip-ons, fairing wings, are just a couple of items made by others, but sold under the HD name.
There is a huge selection of aftermarket parts and a lot of them are very good, some only so-so. I have parts and accessories from HD, Woods Performance, Kuryakin, RB Racing, Joker Machine, JB, Walter's Workshop, Jim's Performance, HogPro, Renegade, Daytona Twin Tech, Green Filters, K&N, and others that I can't remember. I have also ordered HD parts through Zanotti's and Chicago HD and Shooter64 on this forum. I hate to pay retail !
