Default Chrome Engine Kit Question

I have a silver powder coated Softail Standard and want to chrome out the motor this winter. I've noticed a trend that most people buy the HD chrome engine kit instead of having the engine and tranny cases and rocker boxes chromed. In the "ole" day, we had parts chromed. Yes, our bike were out of commission for a month, but this was the only option. I like the idea of buying a engine chrome kit, having it shipped to me all within a week (get her done). But what am I supposed to do with the old cases. I can see possibly selling the primary case on E-bay if some has trashed there's, but the other parts are likely not going to sell. So what am I supposed to do with these extra parts? Buying a chrome engine kit seems like an inefficient means of spending money.

Does chroming these days cost as much as buying new chrome parts?
Is there an issue with fitment after chroming engine parts?
Is there an issue with chroming aluminum?

If I decide to buy a HD chrome engine kit, I'm thinking of going through M&M cycle. Anybody else have experience with this outfit?

Thanks for your comments.
Jack

I don't know about engine cases, but I have taken several parts off my bike and had them chromed. I have saved big money too. If you want to minimize down time, sometimes you can find the stock part cheap on Ebay and then send that part to the chromer and still come out big on the savings.

I am about to send my brake caliper to the chormer and he's going to do it for $150. The HD part is $714.00

Do like the rest of us and start piling them up on shelves in the garage. Soon you'll have enough to build another bike. I'm to a point where I need a room addition on the garage.

You can sell the used parts for about $50-75 on ebay or buy used for that amount and chrome them to save down time. HD chrome is junk. Chrome the stuff you got or get a second set used and chrome that.

The local dealer has an exchange program. much cheaper than the HD kit. Also had them do it with some engine work so I wasn't paying 2x's for the labor/materials.
