Ok, Sorry For a lame post but I am new and just wanted some opinions!!! I have an 07 nightster with a stage 1 and I hit the rev limiter going from 1st to 2nd in neutral and I am wondering If I could have caused any damage?
Now, I don't know if HD bikes come with rev limiters, but if they do you should be fine. Not to mention if you only did it for a split second and you were in neutral it should make no difference because it wasn't putting any force on the engine (because you weren't actually moving the wheels).
Your Grandpa is right, but he was prolly refering to people reving engines in neutral when they are just started, cold, oil not flowing around good yet etc. That will kill anymotor faster than most anything (IMHO).
I thought that one of the few advantagesof a Fuel Injected Engine is the computer monitoring the temp, altitude, and RPM's etc. and the rev limiter being one of the functions.
I would not worry about it myself. Keep an ear on your motor, especially when you first start it cold, listen for any unusual sounds. I do that all the time if its my bike, car, or lawn mower! I would not make a habit of reving it that high....V Twin big bore engines with along stroke are not designed to be high reving. Maybe you need a Tachometer?
put an SE coil on it and you wont have that problem!
